Importing KTM's from USA

So a buddy of mine that works in portland, previousily from Kelowna BC owns 2 KTMs. He bought them from portland and was now having to move home to BC. Turns out that for some reason KTM has not requested of the Ministry of Transport, for their bikes to be put onto the allowable bikes list for import into BC since the 07's where put onto the list. I spoke with someone directly from the Ministry of transport and he was surprised saying that some companies are getting pressure from canadian dealers to not allow anyone import options for KTM's from the states into canada anymore.

If anyone is thinking of buying one across the line, you better check into it.

you still can buy ktm's in the us and bring them into Canada as long as you don't want to as long as you don't want to license them for street use. If you are buying an offroad bike there's no problem

How do you figger? Check the RIV admissible list. Plenty of road legal bikes listed.

There are a lot of manufacturers that have listed their bikes on the list but there are none from KTM after 2006. Without the bike you are trying to bring into canada being listed on the RIV site your out of luck. You can't register it for street use. I believe that BMW charges $500 for a letter stating all of therecalls have been done. I tried in 2008 to get a 990s into canada from the states. I called ktm in montreal, in Austria and the States to try and get them to put the bike on the list without any luck and they didn't even bring any of those bikes into canada.

In 2007 the KTM came DOT approved. New laws only permit DOT bikes to be put on the road.

Any pre-07 bike can be brought into canada but motocross only.

According to Canada's RIV site for importing bikes,Most KTM's from 2004 and onward are okay to import. http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/SafeVehicles/Importation/Usa/VAFUS/list2/Section8_0.htm

actually only up to 2007,looks like 08 -09 and new are not importable for the road.

Yes your right, My bad.I guess they thought we should not able to get the same good deals as the yanks whenour dollar reached parity.
