Hello everyone.
So I have a 00 DRZ400E which I purchased in Washington 5 or 6 years ago.
I was wondering is it possible to dualsport this DRZ? I was told that it is really hard to get a bike inspected because of some new rules. I just wanted to find out before i go and spend money on a dualsport kit.

Unless this bike was brought in as a street legal (E models are not) dont waste your money, even if you manage to wiggle your way around the rules you still stand a good chance of getting caught with a non street legal bike that will not pass inspection if requested by the cops.

I have a daulsport kit on my E since 07 and been insured since.I have never had a problem.

Their is a guy in my neighbourhood who just put white out over the regi papers where it said "off road use only". Took it in and got it insured!

Take it to the right inspection facility and you'll be fine.

All I can say is that you have been warned. These other guys are giving you some really shaky advice. The rules are quite clear. Its just like speeding, you know the speed limit but you have decided to go faster, as long as you are willing to accept the consequences. Those of you that have plated RUM bikes should keep your head down and enjoy what you have.

Consequences as in I get into a motor vehicle accident and they check the bike and I wont be covered?

Listen to what Tom has said, he knows what he is talking about. Your Bike must be street legal from the Factory, period. End of story! That's the Law now!

Having a plate issued does not mean the insurance will be valid. In the case of an accident, ICBC will void the policy as it is applied to a non-legal bike. They will use whatever loophole they can to avoid a payout of a claim and lay all liability to you.

you used to be able to get them plated but the laws have changed in the last few years. If your bike has been plated for on street use you are ok but if you do not have valid paperwork you can no longer get them plated any more

Yup, the problem is getting your bike re-inspected if given a VI. Whether some shops will still do it or not, it's a hassle waiting to happen whenever you ride. Don't need the stress!

first inspection item is does the vehicle display a valid Transport Canada compliance sticker. If not, the vehicle automatically fails, end of inspection. What will be interesting is the first case of a RUM bike plated under the old inspection system.

I did the same with my e in 07...icbc puts in drz and the computer thinks its the s model not the e model.After I did insure it I did get it inspected and all is still well.

Washington just loosened the regs re plating RUM bikes, maybe take it back where it came from to sell it/advertise it south of the line.

Canadians can not take a bike over the border to sell, only Americans can import a vehicle (of course their are exceptions to the rule)
