KLR Fairing rises from the ashes !

4 months after a fire in the workshop destroyed all of the parts and some of the tooling, the XS fairing is now back in production. This is fairing based on the 'heavily modified' KLR that was on the DSBC stand at the '07 M/Cycle show.

The break in production has allowed for a number of improvements including a better sliding screen, optional Carbon dash, optional headlight protector and improved production tequniques have enabled a lower price to boot !

Hey Ian, have you ever thought of building another version that is only the top cowling? So leave the front fender alone. The reason is more of a practical one. I love the look but I also don't mind my existing fender. It gets banged up alot and will continue to. But with all these add on's like switches, voltage monitor,and gps......I like the extra dashboard, and you get the windshield that can go up and down. People already pay $$ for the tall windshield and they tend to remove it in dirt cause it's too tall and floppy. With this you can raise and lower it. Also, it's probably stronger than the stock setup so I could add my toolbag above the headlight. I have a toolbag right now on the stock one but I have to keep it light weight as the plastic doesn't have enough support/strength.

So a cowling, dashboard, windshield combo that just replaces the top cowling.

Hi Brian,

Yes, I have thought about a 'shorty' and hope to start work on it soon. It's a bit more than chopping off the fender bit, because much of it's strength and rigidity comes from that deep 'tray' under the headlight. Anyway, that can be overcome and I'll post up info on it when it's under way.

PS No way for the toolkit to strap to the front, because it would get in the way of the screen sliders. A couple of guy's are carrying theirs in the tray, below the headlight and this seems to work well. It would be nice to retain the ability to do this on the 'shorty' version.

Thanks Jude, there's no doubt it's all been a lot of work, but the 08's are now flowing out.The fairings seem only to appeal to the Americans & South Africans ! Only the first two went to Canada. C'est la Vie !

If you look on KLRworld.com you'll see a thread from last week called 'And now for something completely different !" This thread is all about the fairing and Hondo (the site administrator) wants to do a review of the fairing as soon as the snow goes.

You're right, it's a really good site and I've already had orders since that thread was started last week:tup:
