Last year during an organized ride I managed to go off track a bit crossing a river bed. It wasn't anything dramatic until I noticed that a branch had come clear across my hand guards, between the mirror mount and knocked my kill switch right out of the housing, smashing it into tiny little red pieces. :shock: Luckily, the bike would still jump start in second gear (no starter) and I was able to get the bike home. All the electrical functions of the bike were screwed and it was a bit hairy on the highway getting back.:hr:
Before the season really gets going...I decided to lower the profile of the switch in hopes of preventing this from happening again.
As you can see, the stock switch sticks it's little red head above the housing just asking for mother nature to take a shot at it!:mad3:
About two minutes with a high speed cutter and the profile of the switch is lowerd to be flush with the housing. It's still very easy to access and turn without the risk of having it damaged by brush etc...:tup:
Hopefully it won't get nicked again...I may well be the only KLR guy to ever face this problem on the trails...but it sucked so much that this quick modification was at the top of my list this spring.
A quick fix that will save you a lot of grief on the trails.
