KLR sidestand safety switch

fester

New member
Hello folks,

I have an 04 KLR and it has the sidestand safety switch as I assume most of them do. It has been causing me grief, shutting down the engine when the stand is up. I took it apart and cleaned it out and put some oil on the outer spring. It still seems to be sticking and needs a hand most of the time. I took the guard off and have been riding without it for a week or so.
Ha sanyone bypassed that? I am not an electrical wizard at all. Would you just connect the two wires??

Thanks

Bypassing the sidestand and even the clutch safety switches is considered as neccesary as replacing the doohickey, according to a KLR only forum I frequent. Haven't done it myself, yet but I will the moment it gives me any trouble.

I need my safeties.

I need my safeties.

I fixed mine last winter. I didn't document it so I can't say now what fix fixed it.
I went with the Clymer manual's suggestions.
The good news is that it no longer works so I will get to do it again.
The only thing I can think of is that I extended my handlebars and may have a connection that is less than ideal.
I know I can bypass the safeties, but I'm not perfect so I would prefer that my safeties were.
