WOW!!!

thats alli can say! just bought a 06 ktm 450 exc last night and went for my first ride today. awesome! went up to campbell creek/scuto lake, and spent 2hrs in the bush. it was alittle greasy, and yet the exc stuck to the trails, sooo light and easy to flick around the singletrack!! the power was amazing, any ruts or logs on the trail, just crack the throttle and she floated over them!!

i am going for a quick ride tomorow am before work, all i can think about is riding this bike!!

VERY IMPRESSED !!! hope to ride with some other ktm-heads out there some day!!

Hey! that's great to hear! We are looking at one of those right now as a possible choice. What do they say the maint requirements are on that one?

Hi Tracy. I don't mean to hijack the thread. No brand bashing either. I just want to encourage you to visit 5th Gear and look at the Husky 450. Alot of quality components & reasonable maintenance intervals. It takes a nob like me 15 minutes to check the valves; very easy!

Randy - congrats on the new bike; quite the upgrade!

Thanks for that Mark but.....

I rode the 610 when we shot the movie & I have to say, I was not terribly impressed with the Husky. I would have to ride the 450 to compare. I wonder if Bill would let me take the 450 for a few hours on Sat to try out off road....:wi::hr:

Even though it was fun & flicky compared to my 950. It was a bit underpowered & just didn't have that "Big Grin" factor that I get when riding a really cool machine.

On the highway it absolutely sucked!!! There is no way I could ride that thing any more than about 10 mins on pavement & I was scared that if I went any faster than 100 kph the engine was going to rev right out of it's mounts.:hr:

The only thing I did like about it was the fact that I could slide the back end around corners without feeling out of control & it was a blast in single track.

Not banging on the machine, just saying it like I perceived it.

In saying all that, if someone gave me one for free, I would not snub my nose at it....;)

Fair enough, but the 610 is completely different from the 450/510.

You can give my 450 a go whenever you like; broken in it'll give you a true sense of it.

Maybe it's an experience thing. I don't know how many different bikes you've had saddle time on... the 610 handles 160kph pretty nicely imo. And the engine is as smooth & has a lot of torque vs a DRZ or similar displacement DR, XRL & KLR. Compares nic elyto a 640 without the 'catastrophic engine failures'.

Although my offer of a test ride stands, your comments above tell me you won't like the 450. Small flywheel, lots of vibes, lousy seat, geared for dirt makes it unhappy over 120kph. Imo this is what you'll find with the comparable orange offerings... they're race bikes!

DirtBag, congrat's on your bike, I'm sure you'll enjoy it for what it is, a great dual-sport. Welcome to the dark side.
