Mod'd my WR250R

So I'm going to be a bit cheesy and just post a link. I posted a bunch of pics and a bit of a write up on the WR250R forum.

- Replaced stock exhaust with FMF powerbomb and Q4
- FMF programmer
- removed EXUP, AIS, opened up airbox
- Fork bleeders
- removed whale tail - replaced with LED signals and rear light

At least I gratuitously flash the BCORMA and DualSportBC stickers in my pics..... :eek::eek:

I'm really happy with it. I'm in the process of a safari tank tonight and mod'ing my rad guard - have a new battery, wider footpegs and a new air filter to go in as well.....I think I have a problem..... :0)

The foam in gas tank makes such a huge difference. I'll never ride another bike without it. Also the Shorai battery is ridiculously light. It seemed like they forgot to put the battery in the box until I'd opened it and there it was. The tank is awesome. I only had it half full and have gone 120km with no fuel light riding around in trail and the connector roads between them. I did lower my fuel sensor as well - time will tell if this was a good idea or not....

Not really - price was ahem....pricey. In the end I chose it over the IMS 3.0 'cause I really wanted that extra .7gal and I'd read that the tank is very strong (the IMS 4.7gal would be too unruly in the trail I think). I'd already been having issues with separation of the stock rad 'covers'. I got it from Justgastanks.com and put in the advrider discount code (10% or something like that). $450 ish if I remember correctly.

Really loving how it rides right now. When I ride without my braces on (knees) the tank feels the same as the stock width wearing my braces. So overall it's like 1/2" to an 1" wider on each side. I do notice the width a bit when I'm wearing the braces now with the Safari but it's nothing obscene.

I like the headlight idea - what kind of weight savings did you get? I can probably figure it out from the WR forum. What headlight did you replace it with?

I like the Safari too. Mainly due to how it can hold fuel much lower on the bike.

As for the headlight, I didnt weight it but its an old all glass setup.

Does not appear to be an issue. Street legal KTM's come with plastic fuel tanks from the factory, and they are 100% legal. It seems to be the Japanese bikes which put steel tanks on the street legal dirt bikes. Not sure whether this has to do with resistance to bursting in a crash, or evaporative emission controls. Maybe both? Or maybe steel tanks cost less to build? I considered putting a Safari tank on my WRR for lowering centre of gravity and radiator protection,
but have now decided to save my money for a 350exc or fe350s. I like to ride a dirt bike with a plate. The WRR is good, but the KTM is pure sex on wheels!

Depends on who is looking at the tank. I believe the factory supplied plastic tank have markings (DOT or similar) on them that are absent on the after market tanks. If one were to get checked by an (over) zealous officer there could be an issue.

Stock is steel. Knock on wood, never been pulled over.

I can say with certainty that the safari tank is a vast improvement in durability over the stock shrouds that have plastic rivets and come apart easily. I don't think there is any way I could possibly test the durability of the safari tank beyond what I've done to it at Tamahi......the entire bike has been balanced on one rad shroud on a large tree stump, I've sent the bike down the ravine on Sno 250 before it was washed out and smoothed over (remember that one Tom?), the bike was upside down off trail on Buffalo jump at the top, on top of countless (seriously....countless) drops on rocks, roots, Mitch and his bike, etc.....

Safari tank is bomber for sure......
