New DS regs?

I saw further down in the Honda blogs that the Province is enacting new DS regs? From what was said, they may be going as far as Quebec did, i.e. pulling plates on previously registered "off-road" bikes, like 650Rs, if I interpreted the info right.

This is a potentially scary scenario, and some people are goiing to lose value big-time in their DS'd bikes, not counting the investment in the DS kits they bought.

Please tell me they aren't going this far!

Remember for a minute where you acquired your information from, an internet forum. A viable source of misinformation, like any form of media. I wouldn't worry about it until that day comes. If you wanted immunity from this possible scenario, get an already legal steed. Quebec, who cares?

I believe this originally started as a rumour and escalated. Probably prompted from the quest to have insurance be a requirement for all off-road non street legal machines, IE ATV's, sleds, dirt bikes, dune buggies etc. Insurance for off-road toys may be a practical cause, it's not like you are alone out there.

What is the difference between your stock ready dual sport and your Baja upgraded, inspected and plated ride. Performance! They both still go the same places and offer the same ability of carnage.

Should this day ever come, I'd be happy to support any member(s) by riding about Victoria's White House.

its just a way for GOV to get more $$$= the recreational off roader is targeted [usually a boomer with bux] and just look at CALIFORNIA -thats what it will be like here -tags for certain vehicles that are compliant with emission standards,limited types etc..i hope it comes so more money [hopefully] goes to our backwoods areas as i go there on a daily basis and see nothing but yahoos shooting off guns, garbage ,illegal saweddown trees ,ATVs wrecking nature doing new trails,poachers killing moose and deer,4X4 mud bog A holes...i can go on but the only thing i know after all this is done is that no one [officer- ranger, etc]will be there to give you a ticket i mean, we only have two conservation officers covering the entire OK valley..this all started because the snowmobiler club spends tons of $$ on trails and the 4X4s trash em..:(

Helpful words all,and I hope you're right, but itPi**es me off royally that I have tothink twice aboutgetting the bike I want - a 650R, vs an L. I'm not a good enough off-roader to really use all that an R can do, butlike many things in life, I'll want it even more if I can't have it!

Idid getan ATK registered last year, probably because they never heard of it. If they do start thisprocess in future, it's not the forest police that will find a "non-compliant" bike, it will be ICBC , when we try and reinsure.

Read the following posts and you will see that the government is not changing the rules. The problem is that some facilities and inspectors are inspecting vehicles which never should have been inspected in the first place. Only “motorcycles” are to be inspected, not RUMs. ICBC will licence/insure the vehicle because they believe that the inspector who passed the vehicle was acting in good faith.



Grandfathering applies when laws are changed. Since no laws are being changed in this case how, can licenced RUMs be grandfathered?

Called DOT in Nanaimo and talked to an inspector about my bike (it's a RUM)and he didn't have a clue on regs on "RUM"bikes,than called Victoria DOT and will have an answer tomorrow morning from them about this topic:tup:.....and hopefully settle this topic once and for all:mad3:...ICBC told me today when I called themthat it doesn't matter what designation was on the bike before it was inspected....as long as it was passed and legal for the road:shock:....THAT IS WHAT MATTERS TO THEM !!!!!!!!It will be interesting to hear what the DOT guy will tell me.If I'm wrong...I'm wrong...if I'm right I will post the phone numbers so anyone else who is interested can call them also if they don't think there bike is legal.....

thks bajaman,this may go along way to helping us all out! i ride a dirtbike that's been converted to a dualsport,as do a lot of us here. i've converted/licienced these type of bikes because the suspension,braking and handling is head and shoulders/ pardon me-miles above what is available in a street legal out of the box motorcycle. i don't ride these bikes on the street just cause i'm a "REBEL". In a world that is as messed up as our's is right now, i really hope that the tax dollars i pay are going to possibly stopping innocent people from getting shot in the lower mainland. not spent chasing a dualsport guy on a backroad some where in the middle of nowhere bc,because maybe his bike that was inspected/passed,slipped through by some obscure/vaugely written loophole!

Every couple of weeks or soI see someone has questions or has a DS'ed RUM dirt bike.Some people on the site seem to know whats going on or think they know whats going on.....So I am going to talk to this gentleman on Friday morning about this issue on the DS'ed RUMbikes.We have two bikes converted ,so this means alot for us.I will post the phone number for the office at ICBC and from the Ministry of transport...if we are allowed to keep our DS'ed bikes on the road...and if I'm wrong..I guess I will have a couple of bikes for sale in the near future.So to sum things up I want to settle this topic once and for all and just get back to the fun stuff....like riding our bikes and not worrying about this s#$%.:tup:I think the government can spent my money a little more wisely..like controlling the gang shootings in Van or maybe getting the economy back on track....and that's my rant for tonight

I'm calling him.His sec told me that he will be in the office at 8:00 am....I'm calling 8:01 am:talk:..will post as soon as I find something out.....
