.....Take the front shroud off and check the electric cable going into the speedo. The boot around the cables looks prone to breaking up and then the wires can disintegrate. I just had a wire break on me - causing the speedo to turn off - intermittently at first then permanently. It looks hard/ impossible to get inside the unit and to put replacement connectors onto the circuit board. Fortunately 1) its easy to get at and 2) it was the 0v which broke - and there is a spare 0v connector available coming off the circuit board (see wiring diagram) (reminds me of a joke about a VW with a 'spare engine').

Anyway, a bit of preventative maintenance here might have saved the day.....

Thanks, Rev, I'll have a look at mine. I'm not much good at repairing circuit boards, so far better to catch it before skills I don't possess are required!
