Oil filter?

Just about to do my first oil change this week and I'm wondering what y'all use when it comes to your oil filter. The permanent stainless steel type, or do you just go with the replaceable paper version.... maybe a bit about pros and cons too?

I've always just used what the folks at the local dealer suply me with when I go into get oil and a filter. Hope fuly sometime this year I'll be able to get a S.S. oil filter for the klr.

I just stick with the oem filter, they seem to work good enough and are cheap enough.

There was a long post on this topic somewhere here on DSBC but I couldn't find it.

If anyone can post the link...............

Hey Joker, how did you make a nice link like that. I tried, but mine just turned out stupid.:shoot: Are you the new internet geek for DSBC?:hb:

Personally, I don't like reuseable oil filters. I don't have any good reasons, I just don't like them.

Know what the part number is off hand, or do they just look it up in their big book....

do you know if they stock Amsoil?

Actually, having said that, lemme ask this.... my bike has been run on full synthetic since just after the break in was done. Is it recommended that I use the same brand and weight? Or can I vary brands but stick with the same weight, or vary weight and stick with the same brand....?

I have heard that the KLR uses the same oil filter as a John Deere 720 Farm Tractor. You might want to check with your local John Deere dealer.

Hey... good thinking! The paint job matches, so I guess it makes sense that the oil filter would be the same...... I wonder if I could bolt on one of their turbo kits?
