Here is a copy of a small article from Motorcycle Consumer News June 2007

KTM entered the street bike market, it revealed that it was no longer content to mine the dirt for sales and was intent on becoming the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in Europe, a position BMW currently holds. BMW has taken a long, hard look at this development and decided that two can play this game, deciding to contest KTM’ s core business in return. Keep this in mind when considering BMW’ s new G650 line, covered on pages 2 1—23 of this issue.

A hard-core BMW 450cc dirt bike has been spotted undergoing testing at the Uelsen Enduro race in Germany recently, entered under BMW’s Motorrad team, and now we learn that BMW is considering the purchase of Husqvarna from the MV Agusta group.

Husqvarna was moved from Sweden to the Italian town of Cassinetta di Lugagnano near Milan after it was purchased by Cagiva, and now isn’t terribly far from Munich.

Perhaps the most compelling reason for the purchase is that Husqvarna has just completed the three-year development of a very high-tech 250cc four-stroke competition machine. It finished second in its first race at the opening round of the 2007 World Enduro Championship, held March 17—18 in Ostersund, Sweden.

With contenders in both the 450cc and 250cc categories, dirt riders may find themselves considering the purchase of their first BMW very soon.

They mention this in the may issue of dirt rider magazinepage 40. Competition is great for developing these Enduro bikes.
