so close you could touch it. From a little ways back it was hard to get a read on this pipe looking straight thru it though hanging way off the back of the semi trailer, and then holy crap! thatsa big assed pipe hanging offa there.

get your kicks on route 66! just like the persons that layed down the endless squiggles of tar snakes, as clearly they must've been having fun.

while headed towards death valley the terrain consists of near dead flat valley bottom divided by sometimes fairly steep twisty passes. The 990 took me up over down across repeat for a coupla days. With spectacular desert scenery all the way.

it was getting close to the time of day to find a place to camp when i came to a line of stopped cars waiting for a train to clear the tracks ahead. Looking on the gps fro a way around the train a track was found not far off the road beside me and not that far back. While investigating my go-around i noted a small group of 4 x 4's parked out in the scrub. Carrrying on with my oh so smart "cmon Wayne You can beat the train" i suddenly found the 990 in deep silt in an instant it was 6 inches deep!! whoa big fella full stop. Buggah! now all the crap will have to come off the bike and man handle the wee sub 700 lb beast out to solid ground, but,,, when i turned around there were two guys standing there. They had seen me from their 4 x 4 camp ride in and not come out so they investigated. with a huge thankyou very much, they asisted me out to solid ground and accepted the dinner and beer that was offered. Ended up making camp right there out in the scrub sharing a camp with my new found friends. whew. Turns out my track north will pretty much cover the tracks south made from this group of about seven 4 x 4's from Colorado.

aaand they helped me get out of the silt a second time before i got camp set for the night. oops. thanks.

there have been occasions while on the road with no particular destination that when i arrive at an intersection like the following one, the decision of left or right is so perplexing that ive just made camp and decided the next day. here it was exit stage left.
(Interesting 3 pic stitched picture. Part of the windshield in between the 2nd and 3rd shot didnt make it past the photo editor but the dirt tracks did).

a coupla days later and welcome to death valley and welcome to April. Heres about 6 pictures all at once looking down towards Badwater, the lowest point in the US, again not including Trump.

Panamint springs dead ahead just follow the dot.

Tony the rookie rider on a drz gazing off into the distance. Went from rookie the first morning to pretty darn stable two days later, once he learned to keep the speed up in the loose stuff.
Think Baja like riding.

though the panamint resort was a bit laughable the riding in the area was fantastic especially with a near new meaty moto Z on the back.

Much steeper than is appears and with no visible exit, after my 990 showed the line I scorned one of the dirt bikes to run up it. After riding the 990 for weeks fully loaded it now felt like a wee little dirt bike.

the ghost town of Darwin is full of sculptures scattered all over the place and is a worthy sidetrip for the day, when in the death valley area.

some two wheeled sculptures.

There's plenty of old abandoned mine sites to explore in the area. And having jet fighters zoom past every now and then through out the day is pretty cool as well as there's a large training range in the area. Theres also a bluff that gathers plane buffs and photographers that leads from the high plateau to the valley floor named The Jedi Run where jet fighters zoom in put on a show as they weave their way down the valley passing in very close proximity to the spectators. very cool!

But stay awake there's monsters out in that wild wild west

and why wouldn't there be a big swampy area full of goldfish way up in the hills of death valley?
