Timing Chain Sprockets out by 1/2 tooth width......

Hi there at TDC my right timing chain sprocket was out by 1/2 of a tooth width in that the front arrow was below the horizontal when the line on the right side of the sprocket was horizonta. We moved the sprocket back one tooth but then the problem switched with the front arrow being higher than the horizontal. We had a look in the Clymer's manual at the exploded view of the assembly and we could not figure out how to move the sprocket back 1/2 of a tooth so we put it back together the way we found it (I just replaced my valve shims). The top end was rebuilt ~10 000kms ago so it was time to adjust my valves. Good thing cuz all but 1 was beyond the tolerances.

So I figure my timing is out, but will 1/2 of a tooth width affect the motor in any way?

Thanks!
