This bike has been great, but one thing that I haven't sorted out is that it is hard to start when it is hot. If I am in the bush, I might as well wait 5 or 10 mins before trying to restart it. I can kick and kick and there is no hint of life. Then all of a sudden it just starts as though a switch was turned on. It bugs me so much that I am considering shopping around for something watercooled and with electric start. Any ideas?

what year is the bike, if old maybe the carb could use a good cleaning. i have a lawnmower that was like that. ran fine but if shut off hot could not get it started till it cooled down. me thinks it was the carb warms up being attached to the engine, when that happens heat expands some parts more than others depending on which type of metal it is. if you have varnish in the jets or wherever it could clog it just enuf to cause the problems you describe. my wife rides a 1986 honda scooter that we could not even get started this year. tore into the carb and the slow jet was plugged solid. 3 days of carb cleaner soaking and she was back on the road. soak the stuff in a glass jar, plastic will get eaten thru

Thanks for the reply edz. It is an 03 model. It has been hard to start when hot from new. It does look like a carby problem though. And it has got 20,000 km on it, so I will dismantle the carb and clean. This will also be good for me to get familiar with it, because the next step may be to retune it or play with jets.

Could be that your float level is set too high and when your engine is warm it's flooding a little, this would also happen if your float needle valve is worn. You could try lowering the level a mm or so by bending the tab, take a record of the original measurement so you can change it back if you have to.

Thankyou for your input. The more possibilities I can try the better:). I would love to figure it out.
