X Challenge clutch drag

Anyone have some ideas why the clutch will not fully release as I come to a stop? It only happens once in awhile. thanks, Steve

Yes I may have over used it , maybe got some sand in it! I have changed the cable, running syn. oil seems better, but I suspect there may be a burr on the clutch basket. If no one has any thoughts, I will tear it down and have a look.

I am not getting much sympathy here, I think I will go for a night ride and really rile you guys up. Actually I did that last week, and found out you don't get the depth of the loose sand very well, therefore I have cancelled plans to go in the baja 1000!

Your clutch basket could be developing grooves where the clutch plate dogs engage. Possibly the plates are hanging up a bit.

I have filed clutch baskets to remove the grooves, they are typically only on the driven side of the basket and its not a hard job.

If I had it apart I would probable install new friction disks at the same time if the bike has lots of miles on it.

Makes sure you soak new plates in oil for a while before installing so they seat in properly.

It might be an idea to measure the clutch springs as well as they can collapse over time.
