Good breakfast and ride on Sunday. We even did some trail work on the Sylvestor Connector.

My newbie riding technique on the new KLX450 resulted in a deep hole and a boiling engine.

After some wet trail work we went back and explored a couple of lakes

A good day, no dust, and I'm slowly learning how to tame the beast. Thanks for assistance and advice from Flynn, Guy and Jon (my apologies if I have your names wrong - Old Pharts are allowed to have poor memories!). For the record there were 2 KTM's, a BMW and a Kawa.

Norrish Creek, June 19, 2010

Tobster, Xrtd, Ruskin, Volcon and Farp met at Bruce's for breaky and then went for a ride up Norrish Creek. Here's the GPS track of where we went:

A short while into the ride we stopped for a group discussion:

and soon we were into the clouds. Here's Tobster and Xrtd discussing something of importance - to them anyways.

Here's Tobster cresting a hill. I wanted to get pics of everybody doing this but the camera takes a few seconds to reset after each photo and everybody went by too fast for me to get them all.

Here's Xrtd going over the top.

Here's Volcon muscling his KLR up a nasty little section (why do these sections always look so much easier in photos than they do in real life?).

It never fails to impress me how these KLR riders can ride those heavy, unwieldy bikes for hours on end through terrain like this. Great job Volcon,.

We had a great ride today. Can't wait to do it again.

Ah darn , Looks like I missed a good ride! Did you guys go up or down the 81 cross ditches on Jump Street? How are the roads and bridges on Blacklock creek?

We went down 81 Jump Street. The roads and bridges on Blacklock were fine, no problems at all. Having said that I should point out that a lot of this ride is not newbie, or big bike, friendly.

Hmmm, I rode 650 kms today (Saturday). I wonder if I can get back on the bike in the morning to go for breakfast.

Not sure if the vid link will work, probably shoulda done a test first. Anyhow after breaky Farp, Cheeseburger and I went up west stave and the lake is really high, no mudflats which equals less yahoos. Tried to skirt the highwater on one of the usual trails and came to a water crossing deeper than the airbox of a crf230 which if the short video link works you will see Farp in the process of cleaning out the airbox on his honda and Cheeseburger on his return trip. His first successful trip across I did not capture cause I was busy jammin' out. Thanks for the riding company even though I bailed early.
Cheers, Alex.

Hey, thanks Alex, the video turned out great. If I'm gonna be doing water crossings like this very much in the future I'm gonna need a taller bike, or find a way to route the air intake to a higher location. Or maybe just use my head and if it looks too deep then go somewhere else. I'm just glad it shut off before it sucked enough water to create a hydraulic lock.

Yeah, it turns out that I'm pretty bad at judging the depth of water from the shore. After it got alarmingly deep on the way over I figured I'd try to make the return trip where it was shallower, and it ended up being deeper still. I'm just glad that the water wasn't moving. :p

Thanks for a good ride, guys, and the preceding breakfast.

Was thinking the Breaky thread should take a nap and integrate gracefully into Southcoast Fraser Valley Chit Chat. Currently Saturdays are becoming the day of choice for my ride times. Had a crapload of fun over the years and met many new riders many of which bought way more responsive, lighter weird coloured bikes. Of course without the KLR's you couldn't possibly call it a true Dualsport ride.

I'm pretty sure thats a thumbs up for great rocky hill climb'.
We love mud.

Rain & Fog

Did I mention mud ?

Cheers, see ya on the trails.

Soooo..... after 2500 miles on the asphalt and bugs in the teeth (actually it was a bee that flew right into mouth when I happened to yawn and stung me on the back of the throat while cruising in Carmel Valley - true story) it's time to get some time in the dirt and dust in my nose. Anybody going to Bruce's this Sunday?

Must have needed a beer after that to cool down the throat!
Reminds me of the time when I was cruising along just outside of Red Deer, Alberta when a bumble bee nailed me right between the eyes. (Those were the days when nobody wore a helmet except motorcycle cops.) The pain was intense and I was lucky to stay on the road.
