Just got this KLR650 and I am wondering if there is a better mount for the rear view mirrors? I donot like the way they mount into the pot metal handle bar switch housings.

Where do you carry your registration? The seat requires a bit to much effort to get off if you are stopped by police, so that seems out of the question. Maybe now that the crotch rocket is gone I wont get stopped so often, but still need the reg somewaht handy.

I duct tape my regi under my front number plate. That way it's always with the bike

I keep reg papers in my wallet in a sealed jacket pocket, such that they are not stolen, waterlogged, or god forbid ... burnt.

I keep my originals at home and take a photo copy with me in a zip lock bag

+1 for this. I also photoreduce the papers so they are smaller. Would never have thought of doing that until my insurance place did it for me the first time.

KLR riders tend to be older and carry lots of stuff, so you may want to enlarge them!!!;)Okay, all kidding aside, you can shrink them down so that folded in half, they are credit card sized and carry them in your wallet. One benefit to this, if your bike goes missing:mad3:, you have quick access to your VIN # and other relevant info. As long as they can be read by the constabulary, they are perfectly legal.

All good ideas, never realized there were so many places to carry the reg papers. I did not know you could reduce them legally.

The rearview mirrors look very vulnerable to me. I am guessing they will take some hits, and that could break the switch housing they screw into.

You need a "mirror and choke re-location bracket". You don't "need" to move the right mirror.

I think Burnaby Kawasaki has them in stock. MTR should be able to get you one as well.

That looks better. Do these KLR650's really have to be in neutral to start , seems a little awkward in some situations.

If both the clutch and sidestand are working properly or have been bypassed properly it should start in gear (with the clutch pulled in, of course).

About the Insurance /Registration Papers

I have a laminater at work and laminated my papers, but when I went to renew the insurance I got a earfull from the insurance agent. I was told originals only. I still have copies in zip loc bags,Iveseen what happens to icbc papers after just one water crossing. I will take the chance on a ticket and explain my casetoa judge.

Oh forgot I out my paper under the headlight strap on the KLX, seems to work OK and on the BMW Its under the seat but then the BBW has a quick release for the seat.

Yes, you may need the originals for a renewal, but copies are OK when pulled over etc. I have a whole fleet of garbage trucks that only carry copies, we keep the originals in the office.

W Ron, the torch was brought in by the Relay folks that were parking their vehicles in the yard at work over-night. They brought in all sorts of souveniers etc and stayed for photos. Very nice folks, didn't even get mad when our afternoon shift accidently locked them in our yard one night when they went home!!

GO CANADA!!!!

If it needs to be in neutral one of your 'safety' switches is not working properly. They can be bypassed and the kickstand switch has a habit of not working once properly wet & gritty.

I got folding mirrors from gnarlyparts to reduce the chance of the mirror mount breaking off.

Snapping off mirrors and levers is part of riding off road. Some turn them in towards each other, it takes less than a minute as you leave the pavement. A good set of bark busters will go along way to protect mirrors and levers. I've slammed my klr into the ground, trees a parked car, lol, And even another bike..never lost a mirror. I carry reg. in a small magnetic tank bag when off road and in a removable Givi trunk when commuting 5 days a week.
