2006 KLX 250

Of course I might be a little excited about this new model, just rolled 1000km on it today. Had this little 250 almost maxed out chasing a bigger 650...@ 150km/h. Still had 1500rpm to redline, which is 10500. This little bike is light, handles really well, gotta be dirt cheap to insure it, and in a pinch...you can take a passenger. Although I imagine the bike will be a slug two up. Seat was great, even after 8 hours in today. Fully street legal bike, with this capability...for $6000 !! Gonna have to sell my street bike ASAP.

The bike pictured is the Demo Model from SG Power. It has a FMF pipe, the header from the KLX300, de-restricted and jetted.

I was on the 650 he was chasing and I'm amazed at how fast the little 650 is, the only time I really pulled away was up long grades.

Great little bike, don't buy the demo though!

I am not sure but I think the Acerbis KLX300R aftermarket tank might fit

over 14 liters will get you far down the road or deep into the wilds

Bin doin' quite a bit of research on this bike and have found a good forum with some interesting info. Go to www.advrider.com click on the THUMPER thread and look for the one titled LONG TERM KLX250 REVIEW. I have the dynojet kit already and am just waiting for the Big Gun full system for a 97-05 klx300 to arrive. Once I have it all we'll fit it and see how she goes?!

Not sure bout a fuel tank yet, still workin' on that one. Have contacted Acerbis, Clarke and IMS but no one will confirm that a 300 tank will work. Bout the best answer I canget is "we don't make a tank for the '06 klx 250". My tinkin' is if everyone who has, wants or might want one of these bikes e-mails or phones these companies they might get tired of tellin' us no and build the tank!!

As I get more I will post. Later, C.

Seems to me that Kwak have hit a home run with this bike. From the looks of it, they haven't cheaped out with stuff like forks and wheels.

I had a KLR250 when I lived in the Okanagan and I thought it was a really underated bike. Sure, it was too heavy for a 250 and could have used better suspension, but that motor with a 6 speed in it had no worries on the highway.

Of course I had to gear down a few times on Hwy 97 when there was a strong headwind:) It was great for narrow single track stuff though. This new KLX looks like a lot of bike for the money.

Here is what I did today to the little klx.

added klx300 muzzy full exhaust.
klx300 Dyno jet kit.
crankcase breather mod.
13 tooth sprocket.
air box snorkel removed.
took it out for a little rip and can sum up the difference in one word.

WOW!!!!!!!!
wings.gif

pulls hard from about 3000rpm right up to redline.
revs way quicker.
lofting the front wheel is now as simple as wot.
and the exhaust note is awesome.
this is the way kawasaki should have built this bike.
