2008 klr 650 Electrical Problem

I need some advice. I have a 2008 klr650 with 3500 kms. Occasionaly, when I go to start the bike, there is just a click and the bike does not turn over when I push the starter button. There is then no electical power at all until you move the handle bars all the way to the left. After doing this a few times, the bike will start again.

Any advice?

It might bethat one of theelectrical connectors is lose. But,it seems more likelythat you have a broken wire in the harness. First check the electrical connectors around near the steering stem. Check to make sure that all the pins of the connectors are fully inserted in the connectors and that all the connectors are also fully inserted.

Take a look at the wiring harness to see if any wires are broken, pulled tight, kinked. You may need to pull a bit on each wire to see if it is broken. After that, you'llneed a multi-meter to check harness from connector to connector.

It is also posible that the problem is in the wiring of the clutch switch or start/run switches. The starter relay is also a lesser posibility.

BTW: Is there any luck that you bike is still under warranty? If so, any factory dealer will fix it for you.

There is a recall for a short from the harness to the frame on 2008 KLR models. Just inside the air vent in the lower right fairing is the rectifier, the wires coming from it loop down a couple inches and when they come up they rub against a tab on the subframe for the fairing. Look here first. Mine has had a few different harness to frame issues. There is a side stand safety switch,a saftey on the clutch lever when not in neutral that some KLR owners bypass.
