Hi KLR lovers,

Has any installed hand guards with bark busters yet on a 2008 KLR? I tried a set and had to return it as they didn't fit.

I know Acerbis has a set that may fit. I just don't want to play trial and error if someone has the info.

I looked and they either do not fit, or are junk.

Got the aluminum here to make my own, likely next month when I build my skid plate.

I can take pics as I do it and share them with you if you like.

Plan to leave the bar weights on, for vibration reasons, and just use a long bolt to hold both at once.

I have made my own last 3 pairs, for the last bikes I have bought, its really easy, and a lot chepaer, and stronger than the crap sold in stores.

Hi Krusty,

I am going out of town to work for the winter....have a full shop, and will be in or near it all the time there.

So plan to do some projects on the new KLR.

If you want a skid plate and handguards, its easy to build an extra set after i design it, so will just build an extra of each and give them to you my friend.....you helped me out more than I can ever thank you for already after my crash, so it is the least I can do for you.

I expect you'll likely have to do what I did for my '05. I got a pair of Moose ones that people said would 'fit'. I didn't like the looks of the Acerbis ones as they seemed a bit flimsy. Of course they didn't fit when I got them home. So with some patience, some carefull 'cold setting' (ie. a BFW and a vice), and some spacer washers, they now fit fine. They're very solid and have been tested. I expect the same would work for the '08.

Hi McFly,

I would love to see the pics of your creation. Maybe I could buy a set from you.

Likely be made in about a month....will post pics and if you like them, can make you a set.

Cheap to make, so i would say $30 plus actual shipping if you want them at that time.

Cheers

That is an outstanding price. It cost over a hundred when tried a set from Powermadd.

Well you have to wait....likely be December in fact. ;)

Think about the materials cost of parts, and I always wonder why they charge so damn much.

I made and sold 100 steering posts for Cat sleds lst year....the stock ones are junk, and good quality after market posts are 375 each.

Cost to make them is 40 each....so why sell for 375 you ask....to gouge of course....i sold more than I cared to make at 200 each, and people were so happy with the great deal....yet i still made a killing selling them for just over half price.

December is fine. All good things come to those who wait. I will be moving into my house in Comox at the end of November, so I will probably not ride untill December some time.
