Just doing a little surfing and it looks like 5th Gear has got the 2009 TE 610 in stock

54hp
6 speed transmission, tops out around 176kmh, idles down the highway and can tractor threw the gnarliest trails in first gear.
18 " rear tire , 21" front
Marazochi suspension
Brembo brakes
Beautiful all round dualsport. It handles great, lot's of power, very well built and reliable.

I want one. I noticed a 2007 for sale on Vancouver craigs,
Looks like decent price. Is the 07 carbed and the 08/09 FI?
Which way to go?

The one on CL is an 07 abd it is carb'd. I have swapped my 07 for an 08 for a short ride and didn't really notice any difference as far as power and throttle response goes.

I think $7000 for the one on CL is a killer deal. It comes with the supermoto wheels and tires (alone worth over $1000) and the Leo Vince slip on. Prett much a brand new bike with 1400 km.

Someone will be a very happy camper picking up that bike!

I have a few questions regarding the big TE & am hoping for some good info. There's a 12,000+ post thread over at advrider but who can sift thru that?
  • can this bike be viewed as a viable KLR replacement or are the service intervals too severe?
  • gear & electrical: is this a bike you can load up with your gear, plug in all your electrical stuff, & ride to Alaska, or will it grenade itself well before then?

6fiddy to answer your three questions:

1) This bike is nota KLR!

2) Service interval for engineoil is every 5K.

3) Yes:

The bike's powertrain is super-reliable, the 610 engine combined with the wide ratio 6 speed can purr along on the highway forever if you want it to. It's got the monster stator so you could plug a ton of goodies into it(GPS,heated vest etc...)if you'd like.

Once you get the valves done after the first interval, you don't need to do them for a LONG time, which is nice compared to the other Euro bikes.

They do have their quirks like all things Italian... shoddy wiring, way short kickstand, and a seat that needs to be replaced or modded if you are going to tour on it.

I have over 4,000 hard kms. on mine and it has been pretty damn good, I had a few bolts come loose (cheap hardware, so either replace or check ALOT) and a couple of electrical issues, but like I said I have ridden it pretty hard, so if you took it easy and used it mainly for touring you would have a bulletproof bike.

hope that helps!

If you want to load it up and ride to Alaska then I suggest you reinforce the tail piece bracket. The stock rack bolts directly to a very flimsy piece of aluminum which in turn is bolted to the substantial subframe. The aluminum bracket is well know to break under load (lots of reports of this on advrider) - found mine had broken into 4 individual pieces.

I have 12,000 km on mine and it is a great DS bike. The KLR has nothing on this for true dual sport riding. A few little initialquirks (Italian character?) to sort out but afterwards it is a pretty rock solid bike that you can depend on.

Mine just broke on my last ride two days ago...no luggage attached, just lost a bolt, the housing droopedand the tire traveled up and wacked it...I now have a nice melted tailight as well:mad3:

I'm going to go with the Edge or Acerbis shorty taillight and see if this helps as the stock one hangs down way too low and gets caught on everything when you are riding the tight and nasty stuff

I am so torn between this bike & (believe it or not) the Yammi WR250R. Yeah yeah I can see you all scratching your heads, but it's ride reports like Mark Sampson's Poncho & Lefty that keep me thinking of the blue bike.

Mark's thoughts:

I really like this bike a whole lot better than my Husqvarna TE610.
I had no intention of selling my 610 when I bought this bike. After about 200 miles I knew I'd never ride the
Husky again---people riding 650cc bikes may never agree with me--or even give a bike like this
and 2nd look---but I'm telling you this bike is that good.
Anything even resembling technical or rough terrain the Yamaha breezes thru it so much easier and faster than
the Husky. Yes faster--much faster. And 70mph is so easy--seems more relaxed than the Husky----can't
believe I'm saying that. I fully intend to do the same kind of long distance offroad adventure travel on this bike
that I did on my Husky---it will be easier and a hell of a lot more fun.

Decisions decisions...

Have you seen a WR250R and WR250F side by side? If you're thinking WR250 the get the WR250F. Three times the suspension, FCR carb, etc....

That's the bike I would get.

I have no interest in the F since it doesn't fit any of my needs. The R is the one that keeps me up at night :TTT:

So how much would a 2009 610 set me back?

I doubt you would find an 09, but I could be wrong. Give the guys in Kelowna a call. You could also start calling dealers in the Pacific North West (I'd start with Taskys in Everett).
