29 Jul Tamhi FSR Redux

This is for @Cylinderslap , @PistonSlap , @vivian, @Reza, and anyone who wanted to run down to Tamihi but didn't get a chance last week. Plan would be Tamihi, then a bit of slab to Chilliwack Lake then back toward Slesse Bench, do that backward to end up back at Yarrow and then home.

I'm looking to get an early start to beat the heat, and so bearing in mind that there's a few Chilliwackers, we'd do two RVs:

1) RV1 @ HWY1/232nd ST - 0830
2) RV2 @ Yarrow PetroCanada - 0900
3) RV3 @ Tamihi campground covered area - 0945

I can be a bit flexible time-wise, and this is not an intense ride, especially given the temperatures.

Just a reminder to bear the heat in mind, so factor that into clothing and water. Fuel at RV2 is last fuel we'll see, so any smaller/ish bikes bear that in mind too. I can bring some extra fuel, though the big bikes will be completely fine.

Hope to see you then,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Can I meet you at Vance Road if that is the starting point of Tamihi route, say 08:50? I have to be back early afternoon for an appointment so I may deek out depending on time...

Daniel - you're basically thinking the same run we did last week, plus the lake?

I could be in for that. If so, will met you at RV2.

Bjorn

Edit: For anyone attending, bring food for lunch ;)

Hi Ann. I’ll verify exactly where Vance Road is (sounds like it’s further east) but sounds fine.

Yes, Bjorn, exactly that. Folks who missed it altogether can take it in, and you can get to see the view that we were denied last week. Also thinking of @Reza, who tried to get his bike sorted but missed it by a day.

See you at the various RVs.

Hi Daniel ,
BMW couldn’t fix my knobbie tires Last week. It will be fixed this Saturday.
I am free tomorrow and love to join with you guys.
Is the off road parts rough and challengeable please?

Hi. I thought you had them swapped already- my mistake.

What tires are you running now?

As to difficulty, this is the same ride we did last week. Tamihi portion is very slightly harder C. Harder only because of one steeper section at around the 11km mark, and maybe a half dozen smaller cross ditches.

Slesse Bench is easy C. Doesn’t get much easier.

No u right tires were supposed to change last week. But they mistakenly ordered GS Advanture. I need the Wild one. It is in new order. Supposed to be in store this Friday

Ok. I think you mean Heidenau front and Karoo rear.

Since it’s dry, you should be ok. Big bike guys who’ve run those can chime in and comment / disagree as required. There also looks to be a decent number coming, so there’ll be help in the (hopefully unlikely) event of needing a push or hand at the one steep rocky hill section.

Vance Road is basically the starting point of Tamihi. It takes you through Liumchen FSR to the staging area, one wash out but passable. Beats slabbing it to the bridge!

Thanks guys.

A small time issue has arisen - a miscommunication with Mrs Maximus on timing and child minding plans means I have to push back the RV times by 30 min. Very sorry - my fault on not accurately checking. She thanks you all for accommodating and I apologize profusely.

So changes to RV times as fol (amended in original post also):

1) RV1 @ HWY1/232nd ST - 0830
2) RV2 @ Yarrow PetroCanada - 0900
3) RV3 @ Tamihi campground covered area - 0945

Note, re Vance Road, I remembered that I found Liumchen east from the bridge closed a week or so, so I’m concerned to set an RV point there that may be compromised.

So Chilliwackers like Cylinderslap or others, let’s just meet you guys at the covered area at Tamihi campground. If things have changed and it’s open, than just ride Liumchen to Tamihi; if not, then at least we have a guaranteed RV3 you can meet us at. 45 min should be plenty for all the rest of us to reach Tamihi from RV2 in Yarrow.

Hope you’re not too upset at the changes. Feel free to vent angrily as required. I’ll arrange refunds for all concerned. :)

Ann, recognizing your time constraints, there’s options we can discuss at RV3 regarding maybe doing Tamihi and Slesse first so you can duck out without doing the slab to the lake, etc. That may also suit me too if I end up having some time issues in the afternoon.

We’ll tweak plan as req to ensure everyone has a good time and can sort out their personal stuff.

See you tomorrow,

Daniel
