6 or 7 Gears in KLR..can we do it?

I can't be the only DP rider out there hunting for 6th and 7th gear when riding????? There are so many KLR owners out there and in these forums who must know someone somewhere that could design and engineer a 7 speed gearbox for the KLR. Like stock gear ratios and then 2 more gears for the extra zip and fun.

Remember when cars had 3 gears standard, and now some have 6? Who says it can't be done? Everything takes money. I bet if each of us donated $500 for a credible engineer to pull it off, it could be done. Can't be that hard. Not sure how to get by the casing size, but theoretically it must be possible. Anybody really interested in pursuing this further or know some retired genius who needs a life alltering project and really would need a project like this?

Probably many of you are going to cut me up on this one, but it only takes one person with the desire and knowledge to pull this off. DPers aren't stupid. When we ride, we all seem to hunt for higher and higher gears on the HWY. Most people I know would want it if they could get their hands on it. You know Kawasaki wouldn't go there, but we could.

Good news is no one is ripping you on this idea. I'd like to find the gear that goes between 3rd and 4th! In the space where the second neutral is!

That might solve some of the mechanical problems, but then we'd have deal with the low self esteem issues. Maybe Ged could give us counselling sessions.:)

We were riding on the Kettle Valley RR last week and came apon two young guyswith DR's. One was on his bike and the other standing on the top of the rock cut overlooking the right-of-way.

Of course I immediately jumped off my KLR and started to try to talk down what appeared to be a suicide attempt.

Hey, he was riding a DR and poised at a jump! What could be more likely?

He wasn't amused but his brother was laughing his head off. (VBG)
