Ya she looks good, can't wait to put some miles on it. Been looking at these bikes for awhile and finally decided to get one!

Congrats KLROO. Still having fun with my 640. Every once in awhile I think about something smaller, but so far this bike hasn't let me down once... all though I have "let" it down several times!!!

Is it insured yet?

Hey thanks! No insurance yet, trying to wait until the end of the month and get 6months but it is going to be hard. I am sure mine will take a few dirt naps as well, hopefully not too bad though as I will use the 2smoke for chucking around.

Fastlane, how did you fasten the Pelican to the rack?

Very Nice bike, Very interesting combo front fender. Original low front fender partially removed with a raised front fender Kit. Like to see that up close sometime. You need to show it off on the North Island Ride. :)

Wow, return of the 640s , good to see... If it was a KLR you'd be asking the same question about a milk crate...

To be fair the Pelican is already sitting in the house!

The combo fender seems to be a good idea. The back (downturn) portion of the high fender is cut off so that airflow to the rad isn't impeded. Only the front of the low fender is removed, I guess the back of it will still keep the spray down a bit in the rain.
North... Island? Is that, like Nanaimo? :D

Sounds interesting. Never explored anything north of Quadra Island. But I won't know until much closer to the date if I'm able to go! Have a few potential conflicts that I have to sort out.

To mount the pelican use 2 steel strips at the front and back underside of rear rack or 1 larger aluminum plate that mirrors the underside of the rear rack... And then drill your case and plates to line up in a fashion as to where you can run 4 bolts down through the pelican into the plates to sandwich the rack in the middle... Drill the 4 holes so they are spread apart evenly and line up near the outside edge of the rack... Use large fender washers on the inside of the box and cap screws for fastening it down and use a bit of foam tape on the underside plate to cushion it from rubbing the paint off the rack and stop any vibration rattle... Nylock nuts and smaller washers work to stop it from rattling loose...

Ditch both and just put the '08 690 Enduro guard on. It already has the slotted rear that flows air to the rads, and unlike the low fender, will not plug with mud. Going with the full high fender conversion gets rid of the brake line that loops over the fender. If the fender does get ripped off, or you have to take it off to get through a sticky section, you will still be thwarted by the brake line. You only have to plug the low fender once to wish it gone, and in the right mud, only one tire rotation will plug it.

Plugged moments after this picture.

Plugged

Not a 640, but the bike I had before it. Plugged.

Buddies bike, plugged.

Cleared the best we could with a stick to get it rolling, the the tire started to smoke, so off came the guard.

I read one on ADV where an F800 owner had the low fender fail and the brake line fall into the tire - Stopped it instantly, unfortunately he was doing a decent speed at the time on gravel.

The full high fender is a good idea. Might be something I get to in the future.
