Thanks for adding the specs, here's a few more

Electronic Fuel injection
10"travel both ends
Fuel tank inner fender combo resides under the seat similar to BMW X series.

You say $8798 US so with our Par+.07 dollar we'll probably be $10,000 + with the way things get priced up here..... but you never know......

Why do they call it a 690??:?

That's how KTM does ther new model designation. When they bored out the KTM 450 and created a 510.4 cc motor, they called it the 520. A new model year, few cosmetic changes, and it was relaunched as the 525 ! Still the EXACT same dispacement 510.4 cc. For 2008, we have the 530XC-W baby!!! With 510.4cc again.

How's that Suzuki DR644 Joker? Hehehe. I know, that's only a 6 cc stretch, my "640 Adventure" was a 625cc. The Austrian's are marketing geniouses! I suppose in a couple years my KTM 1000 EXC-W(EIEIO) will be coming.With the same 510.4ccs ;)

Hey Joker, we need to trade up to some 990 Adventures, they have 999ccs phew, who saw that coming?

I saw the 690 enduro at the Bike show today and I must say that it looked pretty sweet.

It does look like a really nice dualsport bike. I would love to take one for ride.

Kinda looks like an orange Husky a bit with that pipe, huh? She's a looker. But if it vibrates like the old LC4...:wi:

Not sure if this question makes any sense but with an unbalanced tank, would that mean that the weight balance would be different depending on tank level? Or is that why the funky design? They had to come up with a way to balance it. And would an extra 15 lbs on one side make a difference? Maybe not.

I just got a quote from Europe on a 07 690 Rally.....E22,000, that equates to CDN$32500. :dr:plus shipping and a whole lot more trying to figure out how to register it here.

I am thinking fly to Europe, buy the bike, pick it up, ride to Dakar (same time as the actual race, should it be going to Dakar) and then keep going to South Africa, Cape Town, ship it here and try to figure out how to register it here....

Hi Hopper, what a fab bike! Performance on & off road all you could ever want. Big worries? The 640 made my hands go numb in 5 mins, does new bike have a counterbalancer? Is it easy to get a 18+ litre tank to avoid range worries? I keep hearing horror stories about KTMs falling apart if expert maintenance is not done. Can new bike survive on normal Jap bike type use & abuse? On the other hand, if it takes your breath away, buy it.

On the the 640 the counterbalancer is that lobed shaft just in front of the clutch. And you have to burp the downtube (that's where the 2nd liter of oil is) when you change the oil. It's really hard to do - recommended for experts only ;).

I will admit that you need a bent feeler gauge and some dexterity when you set the valve clearance.:mad3:

Reports on the 690 engine is that it is very smooth and pulls very hard...... I'm sure that KTM hard parts will list some kind of an addition to the fuel capacity.....

Or just wait for the Adventure version of this bike to come out, it should hold plenty of fuel....

How many miles do Japanese bikes have to log to get classified as reliable? Seems to me that a good portion of owners ride them for a year or 2 and then flog them for a new one.... How many actually make it past 20,000 KM?

I just moved to Kaslo and am looking at getting a dual sport bike. I've been itching for a 950 Adventure for a while but maybe the 690E would be better suited since I'm a dirt noob. I did own a DR350S a few years ago when I lived in the city, but I only used it for commuting so I sold it to my brother-in-law.

I've got 20 years experience of street riding, but I'm looking to expand my horizons and check out the off-road scene. Do you think a 690 Enduro be an okay first bike for that? Oh yeah, I'm an old fart (48 this year) so I don't think I'll be getting too crazy with it.
