Greetings; Intrested to hear about XT rebuilds since theve been around for so long and have a bullet proof engine; and once you replace the original open ball bearings with sealed ones; not expensive and not too difficult ... it should be good for a lifetime. I love the larger 500's with the aluminum tanks; but harder to find and much heavier bikes.

I bought the Xt 225 due to its long manufacturing history and thus ease of used parts and saw a use for a smaller light bike that was simple to fix; easy to throw on a bumper hitch rack. I found a 91 beater for 900 reported to be in good condition by the seller ... BUYER BEWARE!!! ... was it the bed liner paint job or the wobbling rear or was it the slipping clutch should have been a dead give away; I began to get worried when I saw the light grey motor oil when I got it home ... leaking fork seals ... etc... all replaced and working well now; wheels even trued :) (some people!; not to mention the unregistered bike BS ... now road registered; pew!)

My first post on this forum.

Long time rider, but haven't had a dirt-capable bike since, oh, 1980 or so...however, recently picked up an 02 XT225 from a friend for lunch money. I've been riding it for a month or so, so far so good...haven't gotten the street bike out of storage yet, even.

The little XT runs strong and seems bulletproof (note, I have had to do some work on this bike--even before I bought it...). Right now, it has street-oriented tires on it, but I have some street knobbies for it that I'll be installing before too much longer, as I want to use this bike more for backroads exploring anyway. It's fun!

I had one until just a while ago . mine was a 03 and I had a blast on it . one of the best things about it is that it's air cooled and rock steady. if a person has the space and time combined with reasonable hand skills they can do all the work themselves. I got a brand new DR 650 to replace it , looking back i shoulda kept the XT and still got the DR. The DR while nice and new is still over my weight and is a pig to pick up if you drop it more then twice. The XT I could pick up no worries which makes single person loading nice and easy . the steel tank is nice but its also a little small . So I picked up a Koplin JR fuel cell from Crappy tire and it fixed me up for a long ride , that and something for the seat are my big must do list . theres a list of mods know as Z1 mods which involve the airbox exhaust pipe and jetting which give it a bit more pep. you can either google it or send me a pm and I will send you to the site . Have fun

Hi BC Dave:

I am an XT rider too, but my bike is early in the gene pool. It still is my favourite of all time and is still a lot of fun. This bike has carried my fat butt for decades and still looks much the same as it did many years ago. The rider on the other hand is showing a few miles. It's a little bike, 2 inches SHORTER in wheelbase and 1 inch LOWER in seat size than my daughters new suzuki DR200. Pobably close to the size of an XT225 and smaller than an XT250.

Well, that old XT500 up above ended up at the motorcycle hospital getting a lung transplant. I guess after 31 years it deserves it. While that's been happening (it takes a while here) I've been thinking this old rider may be ready for a smaller, easier starting bike. I looked at dozens, I even bought one (DRZ), but I couldn't handle the height. Then I discovered this 2007 XT225 for sale just a block away. I haven't spent much time on it but I can tell it's gonna be fine.

Time to revive an old thread!

Just thought I'd chime in, I had a Super Sherpa last year but sold it as I wasn't getting out a whole lot (then quickly realized it was a mistake!). So I popped round to the local dealer yesterday after work and found a 2000 XT225 for sale. Boom! Done! I'm back on a bike.
Looking forwards to getting out and exploring again and making some new friends.
