accessory outlet on dr650? Heated grips.......

Is there an accessory 12v wire off the dr650's wire harness? Mines a 02 and I want to hook up some foil grip heaters.
Does anyone know if these work with an alum bars, I know the alum is a huge heat sink.
I was told to spray "great stuff" expanding foam inside the bar and all is good?
Anyone have any experience with this?

I can't remember the details of the DR's wiring harness....I haven't had mine for a few years. BUT....You could use an inline fuse to feed a switch directly off of the battery to power the grip heaters. You can wire up a led indicator in parallel to remind you when the heaters are on. You could also use a relay an trigger it off of the lighting circuit instead of a direct feed. This would ensure you would kill the power to the heaters when the bike is turned off.

You will not have a problem with heat on the throttle side as the throttle tube will isolate the bars. I have used a few layers of electrical tape on the clutch side to acheive satisfactory results.

Thanks for the info. I wired up the grips on my ATV direct off the battery and with a label maker I wrote "be sure grips are off!" stuck to the headlight. Killed the battery anyway so I also ended up wiring in a "your and idiot light".
Would be nice if Suzuki provided a power source off the key, I will ask my dealer for a quick look @ a schematic next week maybe.

I ran a separate, fused circuit from my battery for my grip heaters. I used a relay which is tapped in to the headlight wire. When the bike is off, the heaters are off. No worries.

Relays are about $5 at Lordco. I can dig up the wiring instructions for you if you are interested...

I don't know if it's for the euro model or what but (and this is if I'm remembering right) I ran mine off the front harness. I think there was an extra plug that was tied in with the ignition, which is really handy because you can't leave them on. Pull the headlight cover off and unbundle everything and check the unconnected wires with a test light. I think I grounded them to the frame up there. BIG difference in heat between the throttle and clutch sides. I never figured out a practical solution.

There should be a black plug under the headlight cowl that will have a brown wire and a black wire with a white stripe. The black and white is the ground wire throughout the DR harness. On the clutch side of the bars wrap the bar with aluminum foil and hold it in place with quality electrical tape. Buy 2 sets of grips and use the throttle grip on the left side with grip glue or shoo goo and wire it in place. A relay is a very good option and another nice area to mount it is under the seat near the CDI box. Lots of room for relays here. Sounds like you already have heaters but A`ME grips has just come out with waffle grips with a built in heaters. I have not tried them.
