Adding a 12 volt plug in

Any of you find a good place for one on the KLR. I'm thinking right next to the rear signal light on the right side.I can't find a spot in the front. It's for plugging in those little tire pumps that lazy people like myself use.

For my GPS I just bought a connector for that plug in at the front.

I connected a weatherproof 12 volt outlet to the city light wires behind the fairing and used double sided tape to stick the outlet to the top of the instrument panel.

Are those the wires you're connecting your GPS to? My GPS only uses 3.5 volts, so I would fry it if I connected direct to those wires.

I replaced the cigarette plug on my pump with one that matches the plug on my electric vest cord.

Those city light wires behind the fairing are great for low power demand items like GPS (I run my Garmin 276C off it) or charging cellphones but not much more. It certainly wouldn't be able to handle the demands of an electric air pump.

I also replaced the plug on my electric air pump to match the power leads for my electric vest. It is wired directly to the battery (with an in-line fuse) so is very capable of handling the pump load

I use a two pin trailer (same as your vest) connector wired with an inline fuse comming out at the front of the seat. From there I hooked up an in-line on/off switch and then split the wires two ways. One end for vest, pump (trailer connector) or what have you and the other "branch" going into my tankbag where I have a dual outlet cig lighter plug so I can charge two items at the same time and out of sight (cell, iPod, camera batteries etc)

Well I added my waterproof 12 volt outlet. I connected to the existing lighting circuit and popped the fuse. So I hooked it up to the battery via a 20 Amp fuse and works well. I put it under the luggage rack at the back above the muffler. I put it on that side because it's the side you pump your tires from. Installed really clean and looks pro.:dr:

I also attached my 276c to the front acc power. It's 12v, not 3.5. Then I went nuts and added new pegs with the 1/2 inch offset, and a new tank bag. My prior tank bag didn't allow me to stand.

oh and I bought some side panniers to hold my air pump and other crap. Since I lost my big tank bag.

ah yes, a good weekend. Shopping for the bike stuff, talking shop with Kawasaki, installing and then test riding it all at Stave Lake.

What kind of tank bag did you get? I want to ditch the Kawi tank bag and get something that isn't in the way when I stand up.

I'll add a couple of phone camera pictures of the outlet and gps and tank bag. It's a joe rocket bag. I can stand with it but you do need the seem hieght to be able to stand and mount the bag. :mi:

oh and the bottom magnet flap on the bag needs to be tucked behind as the seat is in the way. The thing I like about the bag is it comes with a strap so when you go somewhere you can pull it off and carry it over your shoulder. No unclipping as it is magnetic. Doesn't hold a whole lot though. No room for a water bottle. I got a hydration bag for that. And no place for a map. Gps is for that.
