So I get back to my truck at the end of the day, parked on the 10th floor of the parkade next to my office. I get in, toss my briefcase on the passenger seat and notice that the console is open, the glove box is open.... F#ck! Glass from the rear slider all over the back seat. OK, nothing to do about it. I'll drive home, swing by the RCMP detachment on the way and at least report it. Nothing missing that I could see (at first). I go to put the key in ... what the ...! They punched the ignition trying to steal it. So I call the RCMP... something big going on in town so I wait about an hour. He shows up and notices that my insurance papers are gone - they have my address! I call BCAA to come get the truck, they show up in 20 minutes - can't get a tow truck into the parkade! He calls a locksmith who comes and finished the job the bad guys started - I can start my truck with a screwdriver now!

So I leave work at 5 have a 15 minute drive and it takes me until 7:30 to get home, I have no rear window, and a busted ignition lock.

RCMP said to never leave the original ICBC papers in a vehicle with your address. He said photocopy them, blocking out the address (they don't need that if they pull you over) and use those. Apparently thieves will target vehicles at say a hockey game, then next game (since they know you go to games) they swing by your house because now they have your address and help themselves.

I'm putting bars on the basement windows!

How was your day???

Thanks Dana. I appreciate the offer, but I think I have it covered.

I just hate to feel like I need to do it, but I travel a lot for work and my wife is nervous now that they know where we live and what I drive.

Good thing you park the Norge in the bedroom or they might have taken that too!

I have my ignition fixed now ($320), still need to get the glass replaced ($). And of couse, since I took all but basic off my truck ('cause I never take it anywhere!) I have to pay the whole thing.:mad3:

U could buy the glass at the wrecker yard and maybe they will put it in. What glass was it?

It was the sliding part of the rear window - its a single slider - only about 12" X 12"

Cost of glass for rear window - $600! I think I might screw a piece of 3/4" plywood over the opening.:mad2:

If it's the Dave I am thinking of, he's a good guy. We just need to have the 'what are the options' talk.
