:ss::ss:Dear Tom,

Sounds like a great leisurely trip, a mere 1000 miles for the warm-up day. And starting at three am, why sleep in.

Writing this from Loreto, took us 2 months and five days to get here. Anyway my plans are somewhat flexible so I might try to hook up with you guys somewhere along your trip for a day or two of riding. I need some expert advise on how to keep the old KLR upright in the deep sand.

Seems to take a a fair amount of cosmetic parts and road-rash????????? 'Sgot to be a better way?

Looking forward to seeing you down here but wether I do or not, have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Here I go again:)

Baja 2006, I am going to try and keep a on line journal of the trip. I have tried this before and every time something happens to cut me off, so I am determined to finish it this time around. I think I have the knowledge to get the pictures posted so it will give a idea of what we are riding through.

Its 10:00 pm and I have finally packed all my stuff, got the bike loaded on the trailer and now all I have to do is get a little sleep before Gord picks me up. AT 2:30 AM :shock:what was I thinking :?? The Idea was to get to Oakland California to make the Oakland Motorcycle Club's Weekly meeting. Hope we make it on time its alway fun. By the way it was fun at the GVMC meeting seeing lots of you before I am to leave, gonna miss all you guys:)

Hope I don't sleep in:cf2:

If any of you feel like posting here and asking any questions go right ahead, I will be checking back here at least every two days. If you look at our itinerary you will see some days I might not have much to say but I will try. Plus I have to find the Internet cafe's.

It will be fun, see you tomorrow

This is when we arrived at the OMC, got into the wine and this was the only picture I took. A bunch of guys watching a football game, after this we got into the wine and had a grand ol time:tup:

Today after a well deserved sleep we went shopping at Road Riderhttp://store.roadridermca.comGreat store, lots of stock of everything, we need a store like this at home, check out the link(they even gave us a 10% discount), great place for any motorcyclist. It was just like Christmas for Gordon and myself

Time to get the bikes ready and check out some of the new stuff we bought. Note how Gordon is dressed :tup:T Shirt:tup:

Its dark now withless than 10 hours before we leave and Gordon is still working on his bike.

I must add here thatthe reason we still are not ready is because Marks Wife Donna made us a huge meal:), nowits getting tough to get ready. Thanks Donna

January 6 2006

We are finally riding the bikes, the weather is warm this morning for our 7:30 start. No need for any electrics. We are meeting up with some of the other OMC members down the road about 25 miles. about 35 miles into todays ride Marks BMW's rear tire developed a leak, valve stem no good, so he and Brianheadedto Modesto to get it fixed. The stem did'n make it so Mark is on the side of the road waiting for Brian to get the wheel fixed. We will be meeting them in Sylmar.

Chris and Sandi have put a great breakfast together for us this morning. We have a 10:30 departure time now and another 310 miles to the end of todays ride, no off road today. Taking all the back roads to LA should be fun.

Oh yea, Christian, So far the seat is super comfortable. Thanks

I am a day late.

Yesterday we met up with some more of the group, we are all together now. Looks like a BMW commercial I will post the stats later.

The ride to Sylmar was uneventful, Mark got a new tire (and stem) from modesto BMW. Made to to Sylamar early afternoon. New guy to take off road showed up, Johnathan with a KTM 640 adventure, lots of accesories so lets see how he does?

Same old story with tring to get so many riders started at the same time. We had to leave some behind, with the hopes they figuire it out that we have to start on time. Stopoed for breakfast just South of Anehiem. Still no sign of the riders we left earlier. We arrived at Tecate at 12 noon right on time, everyone is now together again. Except for Dave Stickland, he said he would meet us and we have yet to see him. We hope everything is OK.

It seems I got into something that does not agree with me, I feel very sick, flu like. Its all I can do to get to Ensenada. Will post later.

Nothing that a good night sleep couldnt take care of. I feel much better today and am ready to go riding.

Today we are going to ride to Santo Tomas and head to the Pacific Ocean, the weather is warm and sunny:ss:.

Our new rider in the group that wants to do off road rides a KTM 640 Adventure. Johnathans first time to Baja. First time off road with a couple of Candian too.

He was warned by the other what to expect:spl:

Its so good to feel good:D

The ride along the coast was nothing short of spectacular. Nothing to hard but some great cow track that lead us into a large construction area. We ended up on the wrong side of the locked gate and had to get out, Gordon road back to the guard that was back with all the equipment to ask to open the gate. He was locked in too, guess the boss locks him in for the weekend, anyhow he showed us a trail around the fence, we are still on track;).

It seem Jonathan is not as adventurous as we are, he was making it very clear that he was not happy with our choice of routes:ted:, in fact the only reason he did not tell us to FO was because he was afraid we might leave him behind. We all made it back to the highway and to Mamas in El Rosario. Good day to break in the off road legs.

At dinner tonight Jonathan made it very clear that he would not be riding with us off road again, he thinks we are crazy. We will see how he feels later on durring the trip.

Big day today, over 600 KMs about half of that off road.

We got up early and headed directly to Catavina, abolut 120kms of twqisty pavement. Big Breakfast at the La Pina, gas up from the back of a PU and we are off into the desert.

From Catavina we headed west back to the Pacific Ocean, this is a route that no one seem to know if it actually goes through, the weather is contiuing to get warmer. I brought the wrong jacket its too warm, too late now.

The first section of this road is some high speed two track sand, Gordon is having too much fun:). We hade a few navigational problems finding our way through, we have been loosing lots of time going down the wrong trails. They look like thay go somewhere but they keep taking us the wrong direction, lucky we have a GPS and compass.

We finally found the right trail and were on our way to the Ocean and Gorden had a big get off. I was waiting at the beach feeling very happy that we where finally on the right road out and ended waiting for about 10 min, Gordon usually is not that far behind. I road back some 8km of the hardest road of the day to find him, by this time he had already completed repairs and was getting ready to get moving again. Gordon ended up riding the crest of a rut and you all know what happend next, back wheel lost traction and over he went. Broke the case with the shift lever and lots of new scratches. Gordon has hurt his ankle and foot pretty bad but sez he will carry on.

The pace has slowed somewhat but we made it out to the paved road before dark. Now the problem is gas, I was going to sell my DR so I sold my Baja tank and put a smaller Acerbis tank on 14 litres. the Clarke was 20 litres, I wish I hade it now. Luck for me I carry two extra litres of gas, just make it to Jesus Marie to the Pemex station. Bike ran complely dry 100 meters form the gas station:tup:

Its dark now and we still have another 200 kms to ride to get to San Ignasio, just have to get my headlight working and we will get moving. The roads today were so rough that the headlight plug rattled off, ez fix so we can get moving.

The ride in the dark was interesting and a little scarrrry:hr:The big trucks passing so close make it tough. We made it to the main group just as they finished dinner so no waiting for food.

Gordons foot looks like hell but he sez he is ready for tomorrows ride.

We are at Ricardos Rice and Beans and we have met up with a group of riders from the LA area. They are taking the same route as us tomorrow to Loreto. These guys have a chase truck with trailer and extra bike, Americans:mad3:
