If you take a course then Megson's rates drop. More experience and no tickets also brings it down. They seem to factor risk in more than ICBC.

hmmm, took ProRide and Megson still quoted same as ICBC; I'll be checking again in the spring tho. of course i bought my drz the day after i got my license (was only looking for a helmet, sheesh)...

"i've only had my licence and bike for three years and beacon has insured me from day 1."

i'll be checking them too. my strata bylaws require me to carry comprehensive (don't even go there), so i'm looking for a costreduction in all my optional coverage.
update - I went with Beacon - $325 total (comp + collision), fewer parking/storage restrictions than Megson for me; my total cost for ICBC basic + Beacon is under $1000/yr.

When I had my DRZ I was payingaround $900/yr for basic + comprehensive.

ICBC ups the rates from 401cc. I paid $384. this year. Way too much in my opinion.
Dude, try Ontario. RZ350 (350cc), 6 months absolute basic, $1,400 bucks. We don't realize how good we have it here in BC.
I moved here from Thunder Bay 7 years ago. My car insurance jumped $400 (same car). I can't remember how much the bike went up. I was riding a BMW at the time and it jumped enough that I sold it. I've lived in On,Que & Abas well as Germany and I've never paid more than I pay here. I have 31 years accident free driving and that does not count for much here. That "43%" discount is bulls...ICBC needs some competition.

Are you an "older and settled (married)gentlemen Blackelmo? I'm guessing so with 31 years driving..

Ontario will nail you to the wall, for things like: having a penis instead of a vagina, being young, not being married, having the wrong colour vehicle, having not enough doors on the vehicle, etc etc.

Older people with "benign" vehicles will get better rates in Ontario. Young people with"dangerous" vehicles get screwed beyond belief.

Zero accidents, driver education training, Red 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo, 21 year oldmale = $10,300 a year insurance in Ontario.

Very same year, moved to BC, even better insurance = $ 1,500.

The motorcycle insurance is astronomical there too, untill you "grow old and settle down", then you get a much better deal.

Guilty until proven innocent is the moto of the insurance company.
I have to agree with Shawndude. Having moved back to BC after living in Toronto for 10 years, BC has it good. My wife, riding an '05 KLR paid less than half what I did for identical coverage on my '04 KLR, yet she had less than 1/3 the riding experience I did. We had both taken riding courses. ICBC is not perfect, but on the whole I think it is better.
