Best route for a 6 day BC Ride - Advice wanted!

My brother is visiting from S.Africa in June and I'm planning a 6 day ride with him from North Vancouver. We'll be riding a KLR 650 and KTM 640 and doing 4-500km/day - hopefully more offroad than asphalt. :D I'm thinking of camping and hotels/motels and others can join us even if it's only for parts of the trip.

I'm looking for advice on the best routes to ride - thinking of a mixture of Pemberton, Gold Bridge, Seeton Portage, Lillooet, Harrison Lake even up to Cache Creek or as far East as the Kettle Valley Railway. Hopefully with GPS tracks if possible.

Your advice would be welcome on what ride YOU would do. We don't get to see much of each other so I want it to be a GREAT trip.

Thanks for your input.

pemberton, d'arcy, high line, shalalth, seton, yalokum, china head, big bar, dog creek, farwell canyon, out and back haggenberg/bella coola, aim for the cassiar, bag telegraph cr, do the south canol, watson lake, alcan to ft. nelson, south on some backroad bugfart hwy. in Alta. I don't remember the name of, angle to the kananaskis for some rocky mtn. high and ride that southbound hwy. just east of canmore, awesome, in Field deek left then south to the flathead and Montana, down the highway to the sun, r. @ Kalispell, twist your way to the FSR along lk. kookanoosa (sp?), up to Yak Montana, left towards Sandpoint idaho, right on all twisted up hwy20 Sherman pass, sorry. how many days was that?

ok, so this uncompleted loop may be a bit time challenged, but there is lots in there that is WAY doable in 6 days, hey! food for thought. How much adventure are you and you brother after? keep updating with whatever gets decided, epic rides start with a map and a tank of gas. (and 5 bucks for a beer)

a WAG on the asphalt/dirt ratio on the above loop would be +/- 60/40, the hours spent on gravel would easliy exceed the hrs. on slab (mostly remote twisty fun slab) the scenery would go on and on

1WAG= 1 Wild As@ed Guess

You are off to a good start. From Pemberton, there are 2 routes into Goldbridge. The Hurley takes you most directly, may still have some heavy snow roadside for good photo ops. The Highline road is about another 30 km relaxed twisty pavement, then a great vistas powerline run to a small village of Seton Portage. Lots of places to snap pix. Get off the bike & check it out.

There is a pub & motel in both Goldbridge & Bralorne. Gas sometimes at both. In both cases, check at the pub. Lots of fantastic side roads nearby. Worth a day on its own if you include getting back out to Lillooet. A nice backroad from there includes a piece of the best scenic pavement in BC, Hwy 99 to Pavillion. Turn off there & come out at Clinton via gravel. Or, go north along the Fraser River towards Dog Creek, Williams Lake, Horse Fly. Cache Creek is just a few hours south to head off to the KVR.

Sorry, forgot this important tool for foreigners ... Allow enough time off the bike to look around, old shops, museums, scenery. I missed seeing a fantastic piece of road in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco cuz I was so into the riding. Same in the French Pyrenees. Photos and time for them may mean a lot to some folks

I would like to do part of the loop recommended by 04klr described above. Head north on the west side road to Pemberton, seton highline to shalalth, then north across the chilcotin near Poison Mtn (lots of gas needed here) through the Gang Ranch, turn west across the chilcotin out to Bella Coola, take ferry over to Pt Hardy, loop back to Vancouver on the Island, Nanaimo-Horshoe Bay Ferry or even across to Powell River from Van Isle.

Always wanted to do that one.

Thanks for the fast feedback guys... those are great ideas... here's how its developing... we'll be ending the first segment of whatever we decide (after 4 days hard riding and photo's) in Princeton on 1 July to then do the Routledge Run and end up in Vancouver on 3 July. That way my bro can meet a bunch of BC's craziest inmates

So we'll be heading down south to Princeton from the Cache Creek area of BC... not sure of the best route but off road works best... and that keeps the bikes happy ;)

More feedback and GPS files welcomed please. This is going to be fun

keep your good eye on the kamloops postings as several are headed to the routledge and as plans develop it'll show there, off road is the mission and the dates may jive with yours.
The "run" i attended previously was extremely well organized and a great couple days riding.

hey, I met a lane outside a boston bar restaurant 2 years ago. Anyways. You want the best loop. harrison lake up to pemberton, over to Gold bridge. Down into frazer canyon, to boston bar. over spius creek etc. into coq. hwy toll booth area. Kvr to princeton and whip saw trial. Across just east of manning park over the ashanola. At Keremous, into the states at night hawk. Along the mountain FSR rds into Wintrop wash. for a fun night. Over the scenic north cascades and home. If you wanted a longer ride just extend your kvr ride or include Sun peaks/north shuswap/three valley gap up over blue lake into mabel lake area and down through Christain valley. Back on kvr to penticton and over apex ski resort home via cascade loop.
The ride from night hawk border crossing over the FSR rds in wintrop is a must and awesome for cheap beers and a night of fun in wintrop.

Hi Zoo, Yes that was me you met on 10 June last year after our Lillooet run. You were with your brother and I was with all the guys from the lower mainland. Good to chat again.
Heres' a pic of that day at that restaurant with Farp and the gang. My KLR is on the far left.

That sounds like a great route you have planned. Do you have gps files of any of it?
My plans so far are to leave Vancouver 29 June -Pemberton - Bralorne/Goldbridge- Gunn Lake- Carpenter Lake-Lilloet (sleep over)-Clinton- Cache Creek- Kamloops area rides (sleep over)- south to Princeton to hook up with the Routledge Run on 1 July for 2 nights and back to Vancouver. About 1700km over 5 days

Maybe we can hook up in some of those areas. I hear there are some great Kamloops places to ride. Hope to see you on the trails!
