Would like to make a trip to the Island on my DR650 sometime. Just wondering how bike travel works on the ferry, will my DR survive the trip on it's sidestand ? Reservations, or just show up and guaranteed to get on ?

No reservation necessary just show up and you'll be sent to the front of the line. Your bike will be fine on it's side stand but just to make sure take one of the big wheel chocks that are on the ferry and wedge it in under your bike on the opposite side of the side stand.

When you get to the ferry terminal you can use any ticket booth even if you are not going to that place. I often use Bowen Is. ticket booth when going to Naniamo. Just tell them where you are going so they charge you right. I always use the one with the less cars(and I have been told by BC ferry staff to do this) I try and keep some money that I can reach easy(stick gloves in coat first).

When you get on the boat(first on first off) drive to the front and back your bike against the floor rail at a 45 degree angle from bow to stern. Put your bike in gear, and chock the opposite side to the side stand. Some people put a small chock in front of the back wheel. Bikes with center stands should not use them. Safer on the side stand. And you can also use the steering lock. Hope this helps.

Plus the highlight of any rode trip is the Sunshine special breakfast!

i forget how many you need for a group, but three of us hooked up en route on the upper levels heading to horseshoe bay with four cruisers last summer... the ticket guy gave us the "yeah... right... 3 d/sers and 4 cruisers ... together? d/sers packed for a trip, cruisers, noextra gear... hmmm... ok, that's fine."

try to get the taller chocks for your d/s. on the powell river to comox ferry we had to stack a couple of the smaller ones to be effective... then my license plate caught on a some beam and just about ripped off, but that's a whole other issue... $18 for a new one & we were good to go...

You need 6 in a group to qualify for the discount, We usually pull off to the side and wave other motorcycle riders over till we have our 6 and then go thru.

I'm set up with Hi-Speed now so my only excuse is the slow connection between my fingers and my brain.
