BMW X-Challenge

Just wondering if BMW still makes the X-Challenge. I looked online but did not see it. They have a 650 Cross Country and maybe one other. Anyone know or know if any dealers have any 08's left over. Miss my dirt bike. Cheers:hb:

No longer made, you will have to settle for a XCountry or a used XChallenge

Oddly enough, the X Challenge has beaten the Divorce Lawyers and Plight of the Mystical Dinosaur to it's demise. Quite a shame I must add, not a Beemer fan or disrespector, nonetheless it is one less dual sport available to the masses. The demise most likely a result of poor sales rather than product quality. I'm truly mystified with the amount of R&D spent, that a model withers away so quick. Yet triumphant warriors have seen their steed become irrelevant and pondering where the hell they'll get their parts from. Sell em while you can boys!

On pondering a more trail worthy steed, I've decided to delay my purchase as it is apparent that the manufactures are riddled by confusion that demographics support the notion that middle aged men still ride dirt and are most likely to depart with disposable income, or the wife. I have faith in the Affordable, normal weight, aggressively rideable , fuel range capable dual sport. The only question remains who can put these "Ables" properly into one package.

now that the bmw 450 and 650 engines are now made in china . a dr 650 seems the best deal , unless you have the money for the the aprilla 450 and 550 twins

A model lasting 2 years is pretty good by "Crotch Rocket" standards. Sucks by the KLR standard though.

Oh.........and I see the "Great X-Challenge Fire Sale" has already begun.

What has China got to do with it? It's still a BMW with a 3 year warranty. I don't think BMW are likely to let their manufacturing tolerances slip because they use a Chinese company to make the motors. I've heard nothing bad about these motors have you?

As for the Aprillia V twins. Are yop really saying you believe them to be more reliable than a BMW 650 or 450? Great motors (for a race bike) but how much warranty do you get on them? A few months I heard.

Is itthe engines that are made by Kymco? This is a respectable manufacturer, not some backyard Chinese operation.

Looking at pics of their factory, it could be in Europe. BMW is keeping costs down to be competitive, not cutting quality.

I agree a DR650 is the best deal but I'm biased, having owned three....

Leftover 08 models can be had for 5500. It's old school, but bullet proof... great value for the money.

the Aprillia's are horrible.......high priced crap. The dealer in Victoria can't sell them, everyone that's been sold has had nothing but endless issues. Not in the same league as the BMW, regardless of where the engine comes from.

the controversy rages on.so far 60% of dsbc guys prefer to have their bike built in china.having worked in the bavarian auto /bike industry for 10 years, and have visited china i can attest to the fact that those 2 countries have no difference in technical standards, design quality, technician training, human standards, wagesor quality of life.too bad those rotax engines breakdown practically everytime you want to ride the thing.lucky they still build the engine & touratech sells any other part, seeing that the"fire sale is on"i can't complain that the price is too high anymore.my mantra is ship them jobs to the 3rd world, steven harper is right, the recession will never affect canada anyway.mind you the only guy i've ever read about that doesn't love his x-challenge is our tom [better change your avatar man]...but...still....i get that warm fuzzy feeling when mom tucks me in at night knowing mine is gebaut im allegmania...g.r.o.t.o.x....just a Guy.Riding. the. REDUNDANT. obsolete. terrible. oblivious.x-CHALLENGED..as in retarted.......can i...sniff, wimper...still keep mine?

Just to set the record strait

I have owned two versions of the DR650 and two DRZ400S over the past ten years.

The "X bike" has been the best true "Dual Sport" that I have owned. You can ride this bike at 130kph with comfort on the highway and then take it on some pretty gnarly trails (Dead Zone trails andWhere's Bob) then take it home again. For the ride we do in Baja roughly 4500k total with over 3500k off road, can carry everything I need for two weeks and give the orange bikes a run for their money.:mb:I will even love my BMW when its gone:(
