Three others went exploring up East Stave and found some interesting paths:

North end of Stave above Kenyon Lake, a rocky climb but worthwhile for the view:

I didn't look steep until you rode down it, Hamon showing us that a KLR really is a dirt bike :

A peaceful moment:

On the return trip, the creek crossing proved the biggest challenge of the day and we all managed without falling but everyone needed a little help getting up the rocks :D.

GPX file available....PM if you want it. More pics in my gallery.

Anothergreat Dual Sport BC day,

thanks guys......otg

Great ride. Been to sylvester a bunch of times but today we rode places I've never been.

Ah, another Bruce's breakky in the books. Good food, good company, and always stories. The turnout was decent, especially for the lack of posts in the AM. In all, 7 DSBCers and 6 bikes (Tom had chores, or at least that was his excuse :TTT:) made an appearance, and two plans were hatched. 3 hopped over to get into trouble with the Law (Rd) and Lev, OTG, and I took the backroads to Sylvester. I've never taken the Richards Ave shortcut to Stave Lk. Rd., but what a great route. I'd still be taking the long way if not for DSBC.

We shortly got into the good stuff, searching for the other side of the ridge that would connect eventually with Norrish Creek. It's still just a twinkle in OTG's eye, but someday.. Someday.

Anyway, we found ourselves a rocky hillclimb, and in one steep section, I stalled, causing Lev to dump the TE stylishly. While the two more capable rides/riders pressed forward to take in views north of Stave (some pics nicked from OTG),

I revelled in self pity, and instead focused on the little picture, too often passed by when images of grandeur permeate one's vision.

At least that was my excuse. The rocks may have had something to do with it too.

That was that for the hillclimb. We had one more trail that was on the docket for the day. I'm horrible with names, but I'll hand it to OTG. He's got Sylvester and all DS routes available up there in his memory. Forgive me if I forget the name of this spur.

It was known as "a challenge" in my books.

But we made it, the way down being a bit easier as it often is,

to views.

All in all, a nice day of riding. The company was fantastic, the views were world-class, and the riding was sweat-inducing, at least for this pilot. To put it simply, it was just a normal DSBC outing.

Thanks for the ride guys. It's always nice to have others around to coach/push/lift/drag/laugh at me when the going gets tough.

Just for the record, I dropped my bike once back on the way up. That OTG, sometimes you need to keep him honest.

Looks like the water has gone down big time since Pistol Pete, KLR eh and I did that same crossing a few months ago... it looks pretty much dry! It's surprising that even all the way down at the end of that trail, there's still tons of empty cans and shotgun shells. Pete said that many years ago when the bridge was still in, he was able to drive all the way down to the end. It looked like there was another bridge down there that continued on, but the crossing was way to big to consider now that the bridge was taken out.

Technically, I don't think you can call that dropping your bike. You never once let it go all the way to it's resting place.

I have never seen a slower motion dismount in all my life:clap:. You will have to show me howyou do that.

I can't believe that the water is all gone in that creek too.

Great to see all who came out this past Sunday, and yep it's still a casual affair with more than one riding opportunity presenting itself on this occasion. Nice pics from the East Stave area. Those of us with less time did the urban dualsport ride, thanks for showing us around(a gate or two) Chris.

Cheers, Alex.

P.S. I think I gotta stop swapping bikes cause they all seem better than mine:?.

Hi Phoenix, would that ride be easy enough to do with the motard wheels on my DR650, or would I need the knobbies?

I would suggest knobbies or something akin to a trailwing at least, after the recent rains could be a little slick out there in a few spots.

Hi Toby, We're playing in the White Rock Blues Festival Sunday so I won't be able to make it - {:>(

Alex and I had a great ride after we split off from you guys. We went up to the top of Nicoment knob - I think that's what it's called - Alex please correct me if I'm wrong. There is a fantastic view of the Fraser Valley, man you could see forever if the sky dint get in the way. Have a look at the photos I took with my trusty cell phone. Alex is the good lookin guy in blue and I'm the old fart in white.

Think this is Vedder mtn looking across the river

And looking down the river it looks like this

You can see a lot of haze in the air. This was undoubtedly caused by irresponsible people flying dirty kites. Man, when will they learn!

Have a good one Sunday guys, see ya in two weeks
