Came very close to getting smoked toady

I was in the fast lane, approaching a side street, to make a left hand turn. Than a car in the slow lane, going a lot slowly then me. Lane changes right infront of me and slows right down. (He had had his right turn signal on just before.)

There was no way I could slow down in time. I locked up the back tire and leaned the bike over. I was sideways to back of the car and was going to lay it down rather then hit the car. I was able to keep the bike up. (By this time the car had stop, although his wasn't by the street to make the left turn yet.) So I went round the right side of the car.

There were two young guys in the car and they looked all surpised as rode by shaking my fist.

Oh well, just a normal day of riding in Surrey. (I was riding the Husky 610.)

PS

I just notice my bad spelling "toady" = "today" :)

must be a full moon out there. did you see the tread about shewolf? after 15 years of bike riding all i can say is people on the motorbikes have to be defensive cause if you're not you will lose. the worst is the opposing trafficleft turners. I slow right down now, too many close calls.

Rick, the other thing I was going to say is that even the DOT rated knobies suck on the road. Wet or dry. I never really noticed it until now that I motosetup. But stopping on moto tires even when it's wet I would say is about 4-5 times better. The knobies even on dry ashault sucks. I had to stop quickly on the weekend with the knobies and was suprised how fast the rear just starts sliding and sliding. I was supprised how long it took to come to a stop. I have to remember to take it easy with them, especially switching back and forth
.

Hey Lev, you are right about the back tire. It started sliding right away. so I thought I would use it.

Glad you made it through the ordeal okay. I have also noticed a huge difference in my new tires, rear(kenda 270)is much softer than the previous(maxxis 6006). Heavy brakingwith the rear on road now requires more finesse and attention:shock:.

Good observation here.

Might be a good exercise for people to practice panic stops in various (safe / non-emergency) conditions. You may be surprised at the stopping power your frontknobbie has on asphalt.

You need to be a mind reader on the street....the ability to predict what some cager is going to do is critical to staying alive.

In this case a set of trials tires may have been in order and with a little hop you just ride over that cager.....imagine the shock on there face then:):):):):)

We had 2 reported fatalities on BCSB over the last few days.

I think the bigger worry for me personally is that 'retard radar' may not be fully operational, i.e. I'm not as sharp on idiot avoidance now than a bit further into the season.

Definitely agree on the practice of avoidance & knowing what the bike / tire combo can and can not do.
