Hey guys and gals. I'm just wondering what the best adhesive for the case gaurds for the drz is?. I think it needs to be high heat, am I right? Thanx for any help:hb:

I used Permatex high heat, the red stuff because it's what I had at the time. 1 of the case guards still got knocked off (and more than payed for itself ) but all you have to do is clean it off with some thinners and reapply.

They are sold by a guy named Perry that is the administrator of the yahoogroups.com DRZ400 group.He charges only $42 US shipped to the continental US so I had mine shipped to a holding company in Blaine and picked them up but he claims to do overseas shipping (I imagine that means foreign...) for $5 US more.
Damn good deal on a damn fine product. They are every bit as good as the ones you can get at Thumpertalk (CFC) only cheaper. On my previous DRZ I cracked my clutch cover in a simple tip-over. Those magnesium cases are brittle. Even if you don't put case covers on, I recommend filing down the sharp points on the end of the shift lever as they have a tendency to cut right into the cover in a get-off.
Like Dirtybill, I've had one cover come off but only when I skillfully and elegantly
threw my bike into the rocks on the Routledge Run last year. I cleaned it up and put it back on later. It's quite possible that without that cover I would have had tobe towed the rest of the way.

Just remember you might get nailed for duty ! I ordered the unibiker rad guards and the TT case protectors and the duty was $ 32.50. I talked to someone at the Post Office and they told me some orders get through without having to pay duty and others have to pay the piper :shoot:

You got charged PST & GST on the CDN$ converted value of the goods by Canada Customs, plus a brokerage/processing charge from Canada Post.
My experience is that items shipped through the mail occassionally get through without the taxes & processing charge. Items via UPS always get taxed; and UPS levies a hefty ($10 minimum) processing fee. Items via Fedex often come through without any taxes, but even if they do get taxed, I've never been charged the dreaded processing fee.
FYI - Canada Customs used to assess the PST & GST on the value of goods including shipping costs. They revised their policy and discontinued this abhorent practice in March, 2005. Nevertheless, I have since had Customs Officers try to tax some of my goods on the shipping charge, and were none to pleased when I won the pissing contest that ensued. :ted:

- jburnin: You can use any version of Permatex; the caseheat generated is below the threshold of all their products. After application,keep pressure on them for several hours (with duct tape). Also remember to wipe up the adhesive that oozes out right away (before it dries).
- That's an awesome sale price from ThumperTalk :tup:, but even when they were more expensive, I didn't mind buying from TT. That site has provided a wealth of information for many of us, and bandwidth costs - so they deserve some $upport.
- TT started accepting Cdn orders / shipping to us in Jan / 2004. Very fast, smooth service. Note though that their 'Aftermarket' and 'OEM' stores are separate, so your orders don't get combined and you have to pay for the separate shipping. Just a heads-up that may be immaterial to you.

so when you place the order at tt they send it to the border then canada post takes over from there ! when do you pay the taxes ect ! just want to make sure im getting this right, i want to place my order for the case guards and possibly the unibiker rad guards. i did call tt and they were not able to tell me how much the border cost would be ! :?

Thanks for clearing things up for me I just looked at the Canada Customs Postal Import Form and realized $12.45 x 2 for pst & gst, and $8 big ones handling fee. This was all calculated on a $177.80 bill. What an eye opener:shock:
Having said all the above I wouldn't hesitate to purchase rad and engine protection again to protect my bike. Thumpertalk was great to deal with, they offertop notch service...
