Finally got my first off-pavement ride!!

I picked up Michelin T63's for $60 each at the Tire tech day but did not get them on before the Newbie Ride. Finally got them on, and newbie friendly Alex is not riding the next few Sundays. Having registered for the Orca Run and wanting to ride before then, I decided yesterday to ferry over for the C route Pre-Ride. Had a great day. Happy with the tires and much more confident on the 650 even on the paved route home. (still feel I would be better with a 250).

Looking forward to riding closer to home. As I am at UBC area, I will look for easier rides also up the Squamish way. Off some Thursdays and Fridays.

Phyllis

Congrats Phyllis:tup:, I hope to be back to my newbie friendly ways soon. Once I get my rim finished and tire back on. Will see ya at the Orca run.

Nice pics John, funny how we were spoiled for no snow so early in the year. Aside from a connector route, still lookingat the possibity ofloops within the Sylvester area that might appeal to all levels(A,B&C) and a few hours of riding entertainment.

Franhoser, your memory should be stronger at your age. But with a new baby in the house I'll cut ya some slack:p. The BMW rider was Alan.

Cheers, Alex.

Phew, cracked rim replaced:woohoo:. Just need to static balance and remount. Patience is the key to this task.

Went from this ,

To this,

Used a link TT posted awhile back to get started, and some advice from Ruskinrider and the final wisdom from OTG .

Cheers, Alex.

Hahaha, hey Lev, ya had me going there for a minute. I didn't see how you could possibly have gotten a video of me but now I understand, you went through some sort of time warp and took the video in the past LOL.

Great ride today, I always know it's been good when I get in the shower and I'm too tired to turn off the hot water. Here's the GPS track I loaded into the Backroads Mapbook version of Mapquest.

Hey Arthur, I wanted to take some pics but the last time I used my camera I took a pic of you and the reflection from the top of your head fried my camera lens so it's all your fault

Old Phart (Gordon) and I kept the Sunday breaky-at-Bruce's tradition going on May 9. After gobbling up the grits at Bruces we headed out for a days ride up east Stave. Something happened on this ride that I can only describe as one of the wierdest occurances of my life. If it hadn't happened to me personally I'd never have believed it possible, but it did happen and I brought back photographic proof as you will see.

It all started routinely enough with a ride out to the de-commisioned bridge. There was a little snow on the ground but none on the road, the weather was beautiful and the riding conditions as good as you'll ever find, nothing to forwarn us of the horror that was to occur later in the day.

Here's Gordon sitting on his bike at the de-commissioned bridge on the south side of Terepocki Creek.

We continued on to the north side of Terepocki and climbed high to the end of the trail. from this vantage point we could see the south side trail we had previously ridden, and the continuation of the trail past the decommed bridge.

We left this area and wound our way to a high rocky bluff a mile or two south of Kenyon Lake. So far so good, here's Gordon standing happily behind his bike.

But then it started to get weird. I noticed a strange looking craft in the sky that just could not be from this planet. Ohmigod, an alien UFO!!!!!! Standing on a large rock I pointed it out to Gordon.
436IMGP0350-med.JPG

But the aliens were on to me! Knowing they had been discovered they nailed me with a tractor beam and started to draw me up to their craft. All I can say is that when you find your self suddenly floating upward it causes a great deal of concern. Luckily Gordon was able to prove this actually happened by snapping a photo of it. You can tell by my expression that this is no joke!
436IMGP0351-med.JPG

But I kept a cool head and recalled a facial grimace from an old Maori hakka that was taught to me by a member of the New Zealand all-blacks when I played rugby against a team of All-Blacks old boys many years ago. This expression is said to strike fear into every living thing in the universe, so I thought if the All-Blacks use it, it's gotta work and I gave it a try. I instantly dropped back to the ground and the aliens headed for parts unknown. Thank you All-Blacks.
436IMGP0352-med.JPG

Gordon watched them flee in terror and gave them a stern warning not to return if they know what's good for them.
436IMGP0354-med.JPG

And that concluded our ride. We headed back with no further incidents and were happy knowing that we'd saved the world from alien destruction.

The same alien force-beam launched my KLX450 into orbit and then released it into the middle of an alder bush, with me underneath. Good test for my new Fox Racing body-armour! Fortunately John had escaped their clutches andmanaged to come to my rescue.

I found the steep rocky trails somewhat challenging for a newbie and certainly need practice, plus incorporatea few changes to the hardware, such as softening up on the suspension (apparently easy to do on the KLX) and installing a massive skid plate (Dave at Gnarly Parts hasa line on all the good stuff)

Many thanks to John for introducing me to that riding area and for proferringexcellent tips on essential riding techniques.
