Early August trip! With a previous dry or so month we figured it was perfect to go up Mud lake and beyond!
The idea of the trip is to summit Poison Mtn and China Head in a row hence the name!
Our party was composed of x2 DR650, a 690 and 790.
Friday late afternoon was to leave Vancouver and head up straight the Bridge River valley area.
Some of our group went in earlier under the sun but I and another rider met a 4PM in Lyons Bay only to take a huge shower all the way to Whistler!
Great way to start a trip!
Going over the Hurley was uneventful, except the usual "light duty" cars with flats on the road...
But it was getting drier with almost no trace of previous rain here, promising a comfortable setup by Gun Lake, our meeting point at the South Rec Site.
Day1
Packing and heading to Mud lake. The road from Gun Lake down to the pavement by Carpenter lake always over this beautiful view yo may have seen before.
The road up and past Tyax lodge is still fun to ride, smooth and easy, watch out for horse party and mountain bikers on their way the mountains.
Saturday morning could be described as the challenging bit, slow progress past Mud lake due to the steep and eroded inclines we have to go through.
They are manageable when using your clutch and looking for ways to get traction but definitely a challenge depending on how heavy your bike is loaded.
Water crossings before that were easy with low levels on the lake and the multiple creeks!
Going up 2300m is really the cherry on top of this trip, 360 view and temperature dropping considerably, it's not too often that you get to go on top of the mountain on your bike, is it!
The junction down toward French Bar creek rec site, our camp spot for the night was fairly easy with more views and fun riding. We made it quite early around 4:30PM and decided to enjoy the rest of the day chilling after the effort in the morning.
Note: Thanks to all the previous party on bikes and 4x4 who went from both side around Poison and China to clear the deadfalls.
We saw a lot of fresh cuts and trees moved out the way. If they weren't it would have taken more than a day to complete and do it, especially without a chainsaw!
Also, great example of "pay it forward" , previous user left a huge oil of wood, cut and split, quite a luxury to roll in that camp and start your fire!
Day2: Winding our way back to Lillooet on West Pavillon Drive
Reached Lillooet around 12:30PM, fuelled up and rode back to town on the Sea to Sky before the worst of the traffic.
