I did the Wakefield Trail quite a few years ago on a mountain bike. Don't really think of it as a dualsport ride, nor any motorized vehicle. If you check out the link there are a lot ofgood photos of the distracting scenery (when you're riding it's best to stop to view). The author keeps refering to Kokanee Glacier Park but it's actually Valhalla Park.

The Fauquier/Passmore ride is also on my radar. It is possible to go south from Arrow Park to Whatshan but it's quite a maze. I know people who have done it but I haven't and don't know the route.

I have done the Koch Creek Powerline road twice last year. Once on a Vstrom, once on a DRZ250. I would be up for going again this year. Another good loop would be Edgewood to Renata trail, then Renata to Castlegar, down Pass Creek Valley, Passmore, Fauquier. One could then just hop back over the ferry or extend the trip out to Arrow Park, then back down Whatshan Lake.

Either way, on the way there's Echo Lake road, Monashee twisties, apple pie at the Gold Panner. Also, lot's of powerline roads in the Monashees that sort of follow the highway that could be explored.

Is that route able to be seen on any maps that you know or GPS track. I keep studying Google Earth and to me it looks like there is a route but I have also heard locals say that it can't be done ???

lets add this to the list of weekday evening rides - check out bulldog 'descent' into renata.

either that or ill kayak across the arrow to check out the brooklyn bridge and check out the possibilities.

i have a contact here who would know. ill try and find out more. im sure if there is a route the renata locals will want to be sure to keep this one on the down-low.

NOT an evening ride. NOT by any stretch of the imagination. Went up and over Bulldog fall '07. Was up and down the south side last fall. The track is getting rougher (ATVs). A buddy went up and over that same day. Says thenorth side of Bulldog down to Renata is WAY worse than it was in '07. Renata residents use boats to Deer Park (preferred)or go by road to Grand Forks or Edgewood.

Does anyone know if the road from Revelstoke east side of arrow lakes has been resolved? there was a gate put up by a property ownerwhothougt he owned the road.

Sounds like the trail is getting pretty rough. Besides ATVs, would you say it's still totally passable by decent riders on trail-worthy dual-sports like your KLX?

i have a wild imagination roland and usually bite off more than i can chew so we'll see what happens. im thinking come june ill have ~ 5 - 6 hrs of daylight to ride after work from castlegar which is plenty of time to get up on bulldog and do some scouting of the descent. attached is the likely route in GE



a day trip would be better though with a determined group. just the thought of doing this then the possibility of going to edgewood then faquier - passmore via koch creek is helping melt the snow

My riding buddy and I have that loop in our sights. That was why we went over Bulldog in '07. We did it early October, started/ended in Nelson. It was a long day. The loop is best done late in the year when the creeks are low but snow hasn't returned to the pass from Fauquier to Passmore. Late last year there were quite a number of trees down on the north side of Bulldog. One has to ford Renata Creek to connect to Edgewood. Buddy and I figured on the loop being a two day excursion. The tough part of Bulldog is getting back up from Renata if one needs to come back that way.:shock:Finding the way to Edgewood through a maze of logging roadsis another challenge. A well equipped determined (but not foolhardy) group would have a memorable adventure.

Chris, I can follow little bits of that track/road on Google Earth !!

I think we owe it to the dual sport community to recanoi ... er reccinoi ... er ... explore that loop and need to mount and expedition at the soonest opportunity. :ted:

I do think my panzer of a KLR may have some limitations, if that route into Renata is as described.. :hr:

Reconnoiter. I think that's the word you're looking for. I dusted off my high school dictionary. I know, that's cheating. Reconnaissance of the potentialloop is what we were doing in the fall of '07. Various factors conspired that we have not yet had the adventure of doing that loop. It's still on the list.
