Coffee in Vernon (again)

So, new riding season and figured it'd be good to try and meet some more riders. Might be too short of notice this week but would other riders like to meet tues next week for coffee? I don't drink coffee but I can always find something to consume. How about the Starbucks near Safeway/White Spot again in Vernon, say around 7pm?

I'll be at Vernon Motorsports trying out the bikes on Wednesday. Yamaha is having their demo days there, and I want to get my shot on the WR.

I was looking at the demo days and they put it during the week. What the hell is with that? Why not a weekend so others can ride? I was looking into a WR450 ssince the KLR is so heavy when you dump it. Oh well, next time maybe!

I couldn't understand it either, but I'm gonna try anyway. The DR 650 is a lighter bike to play with compared to the KLR; I was looking at that myself but I figured that with all the twisty trails and stuff around here the smaller bike would be more adequate. I mean for longer rides on the logging roads by far the KLR is a more comfy bike to ride, but once you get off the road and onto smaller trials into the bush , yeah that KLR is a tank. I would have liked it if they had the WR450 as a street legal version, but they didn't do it this year. Brent from VMS and I were talking about that when I was in picking his brain about the 250, and he said it would cost another $1600 to the price of the bike, but even then he said that the cops and DOT can still pick it apart and find something.
My buddy in McKenzie has a KTM 125 he wants to DP, and I have the feeling he's gonna run into the same problem others are fighting right now with the restircted use thing. Any way they can screw you, they'll surely find a way.

The Husqvarna TE450 looks interesting. Factory dual-sported!!The May 2008 DIRT BIKEmag has a write-up. 268 lbs running weight (no fuel). Tank is a bit small, only 7.2 L. $7698 US.

Competition kit available to make it real. New throttle stop, Arrow muffler and a number of other items (quoting mag article)("other" not specified).

Amazing you have to buy an expensive kit, and install it to get to full throttle if you ask me.

I see no other bike maker limiting their bikes to just half throttle. :spl:

There is at least one other bike (Yamaha?) that has only partial throttle from the factory. I've returned the mag that had the info so I can't verify that though. A buddy buys a lot of the mags and lends them to me. I did read that before in another test.

I sat on the Husky this afternoon and yeah...WAY too high for this girl! Even when the dude held me straight I still had 4 inches to go before the tips of my toes touched the ground.
I did however, take out the WR for a spin this morning. Yamaha had their demo days and that bike is HOT! I still had a hard time touching the ground, but I did manage to lean it over far enuf to be able to touch with one foot. I cramped up real bad though.:( It's got a lot of snap, but that can's gotta be removed to loosen up he restriction which you can feel. The bike want to bark but it's kinda hard when it's got a muzzle full of packing.:)

Yes, that was the WR250R. I am scared to drop it down with forks/drop link, because I've been getting told by others it will screw up the handling, and bottom out when I hit big bumps. I really like the bike though. Why do they have to have those things so god-damned high?!! *cries*

Apparently there is a right ;)and a wrong :shock:way to lower a bike. The Suzuki DR650 specs actually lists both the stock and lowered seat, ground clearance etc heights. I'm sure there are members who could help if needed. There might even be some old threads on the subject. :)

From what I was told by a good motorcycle tech was as long as the front and rear are lowered the same then it will not hurt the handling of the bike. That and as long as one isn't going to be doing extreme jumps, or the suspension will bottom out.
Upon doing some more digging, there is not a drop link kit out for this bike yet, nor is there an aftermarket exhaust can to replace the factory one because the bike is all new and has been totally revamped. Putting on an aftermarket can would mean remapping of the fuel injection setup. I am hoping that by the time fall rolls around that something will be around. Also to not, ALL dirtbikes apparently come with this half throttle restriction. The Dualsports do not. This came right from the tech.

A lowered Suzuki DR650 has a seat height of 33.0" . The Yamaha XT250 31.9" . Neither one might be on your radar. Joker650has a 1999 DR650 for sale. I guess it all depends on what is available in the fall when you are in the position to buy. :)

I've already got a 600, just wanted the smaller enduro so I can rip up the turf. Be a bit cheaper on insurance too. I had an old XT years ago. Too bad they didn't make it liquid cooled this time around or I might have taken a closer look at it. I'm going to be getting a new scoot, just because I am leery of buying used. I've got time to look at other bikes, I just felt that the ride I got on that WR was a riot.

Give Ian Mckill a call at Riders Edge in Lumby. He will answer all your questions about lowering a bike!
Good luck!!
