Comox lake road?

Anybody know if the road around Comox lake is open now that the forest industry is out on strike? My guess is that they still have security in place. Couple of weeks ago we were approached by a guy at the start of the Trent River main. He was not to happy about all the damage that had been done to equipment where they were working.
After talking for awhile he realized we were not the ones causing problems but could actually help solve his problems by being his eyes and ears. We can all help in this regaurd, which will help keep land open for us to ride on. Before we left he called on his radio to let trucks know we were coming up and gave me his cell #.

The comox lake road had no security guard last saturday. No logging trucks, so its a good time to go explore the area some of the side branch roads are the most interesting and lead to great view points.Idid notice alot of people trucks ,quads ,dirtbikes traveling the road.

Well we went out to see if the road was open yesterday and it was. There were strikers where the security usually is but they just waved as we went by. I havn't been out around the lake in many years and it has changed. There are more views of the lake due to logging and it is still very beautiful. The point at the mouth of the Cruckshank river is all over grown. There is a new road around Willimar lake that cuts around the north side of Forbush lake.

There is a lot of loose gravel on the road with lots of steep drop

offs and dusty!I can see why it is closed when they are working, it is just plain dangerous and narrow. A pickup and a bike are a tight fit, a logging truck and my bike, no thanks. We also went up the right fork of the Cruckshank canyon and checked it out. They have been logging every where. Still nice to get back there after many years, although I probably won't go back tosoon. Cheers Roscoe:hb:

Has anyone tried running around the lake and over to Port? There is a gate about 10K past the Lake on the way to Port... it's barely passable when closed, would be nice if it was left open.

I might try it from the Port side if the rain ever stops. At least the dust will be gone.

That would be great. I ran into the gate last year coming from the Port side. Just a you descend down to Comox Lake... I was able to get around the gate by dropping into the ditch...

I rode through from Cumberland to Port Alberni a few days ago. The gates were open and it was a really nice ride. Not one other vehicle until encountering mushroom pickers near Upper Campbell Lake.

I did Port Renfrew to Port Alberni to Comox all on logging roads. 2 bikes (KLR and 650GS) and a Toyota landcruiser FJ40 for gear, beer, and girls.

Good times. That was a few years ago, though.

Let us know how it goes!
