cracked fork mount

How do you like this? Some good airtime would have yielded some painful results! The other side was cracked as well but had a really bad aluminum weld on it.

New triple tree is now installed and she is getting close to going. I saw the cold weld on the bike before I bought it and took a gamble that I could find a replacement and sure enough.....ebay.

 Scary! Not much meat there to begin with. Looks like you managed to escape an even more painful possibility.

Does the triple clamp touch the steering stops? It looks like that from the photo. It might be something to look into. Hard steel bolt head against the aluminum clamp could be the source of the problem.

It is not uncommon for the clamps to crack if they have been over torqued.. The bottom clamping bolts on WP forks calls for only 11 ft/lbs of pressure.....

If you don't mind me asking what did you end up paying on ebay as I have a set of WP 48 clamps to get rid of....

Yah the steering stops do hit them so I covered the ends of the bolts in RTV sealant, stays rubbery and is a nice cushion ( temporary ). I paid $77 to my door from Texas, probably paid a little too much but I really want to get the bike out this weekend and I have not seen any others under $100. These were dirty but in mint condition well except for the bottom steering bearing, that behotch was rusted in a ball and practically welded to the steering shaft. Dremel to the rescue and a newly packed bearing and she now steers smooth. :hb:

$77 is a steal if you got the entire clamp {top, bottom and bar mounts} that setup retails over $400....

And still a good buy if you just got the bottom half {$200}.....

It was the whole thing, top, bottom and handlebar risers. Good to know I got a good deal. My ebay carb just showed up and it looks like new! $64 shipped to my door, now I know that is a good deal as they seem to be a couple hundred at least. I will post some photos once I get it all together, still waiting for a seat.
