Can anyone recommend a tank bag for the Dakar other than the BMW OEM that is about $200 bucks. I think I've seen a Wolfman tank bag on a 650GS before.

Also, can anyone identify the engine guard on this Dakar by make and supplier?

I have the Wolfman..., I can't remember the name right now, but it's the big one with 3 removable pouches, a pocket by you're crotch and the clear map holder on the top, it's expandible and I think I fit a couple six packs in it once, it also held a couple bottles of wine once. Great room but don't get the rain cover that comes with it, I got one and the thing lets water seep through, so if you can, find a different rain cover. Anyways the tank bag cost around $190-200 at Burnaby Kawasaki.

Also the engine guard that guy in the pic has is the stock engine guard from BMW, I'm sure they're pretty expensive,if you look around you might be able to find one cheaper, and stronger. To give you an idea,I hit a rock with my skid plate last year and caved it right in, so I bought the touratech one that's 4mm thick and it was about $207 after tax and everything from Pacific Yamaha BMW, when the stock one was$220+tax.

What are people's thoughts on hard plastic or aluminum top cases? Any good options other than OEM BMW luggage?

Hey Rob,

The tank bagattaches on the tank with two clips from the front, where the handle bars turn into, one by the oil dip stick and one on the other side. They are secured to the frame on the other end then the clips are coming up either side. I then tie the loose ends together after I pull the straps tight, I do this for two reasons, one so the endsdon't flap around and two, so the clips don't fall down when I remove the tank bag. The two other clips are then secured from the frame under the seat, they emerge at about 1-2" from the seam for the battery cover. It takes about a minute to secure it to the bike and about 2 seconds to remove it.

Sorry I didn't see your other question:D,

I just bought the Targhee panniers from Happy-Trails and so far I like them:), although I haven't gone on any trips with them yet, I only got them 2-3 weeks ago. They are the 9.5" wide with black powder-coat and are pre-mounted because I don't have the means to do that stuff, yet. They cost around $1200 total, I think, that's with shipping, customs and taxes,but theyaremuch better then the oem ones and they're much larger, stronger (2mm thick alum.), plus they look better. Also that price included a set of the 2"Rox-risers, (mid level) too, that I ordered.

Hey Rob,

That's sort of the one:tup:... they say they made improvements on the "explorer", which is the one I have, but the price was a little more so if you add in the taxes, the customs and freight it's probably around $200. The bag is great, lots of room and it's made of canvas so it takes a lickin' and keeps on... holden' stuff?;)

After a summer of riding with the Wolfman Denali Tankbag...I definitely give it :tup::tup:.

The fit to the bike is excellent and the workmanship, as always with Wolfman, is top notch. I'd recommend any of their products for Adventure Touring types looking for durable luggage.

I also have their tool roll, small enduro tail bag, and fender bag. All are great.

I picked up the F650GS OEM Topcase. I don't know if it's rugged enough for real off-road adventure touring though.

Can any otherF650GS owners comment on how well the case and the fittings hold up during off-road touring?
