Idislike the fact that motorcycles are lumped into the general category of ATV's because they aren't the same thing, and it's too bad that the younger more agressive riders seem to have more access to quads than motorcycles. Motorcyclists should be stressing the fact that motocycles are lighter, more efficient and less intrusive than almost any other motorized off-road vehicle.

Motorycles used to beviewed as normal, plated, low impactand acceptablemethods of transportation, integrated with society and even less harmful to the environment than almost any othermotorized vehicle. We've lost that distinction and we should try to get it back.

Just my opinion. "

I completely agree, we should be stressing how low impact we are compared to other groups. The fact is, we are different groups, ie. compared to ATV's, 4x4's, etc, and the actions of other groups result in closed areas.

I have a friend who would love to rip up gorgeuos mossy bluffs with an ATV and scatter beer cans around, so much so that I gotta babysit the guy and tell him to have respect. Besides advice from me (a friend), the only way he would stop going to the same place all the time and trashing it is if someone cut the tires on his truck while he was out riding. He'll pay attention to that. He'd not be too happy to read this, but my buddy is thick headed. And hey, this is not some imaginary buddy but a real guy...

Hey, I just wish people would pick up their Shotgun Shells in the bush. :hr:

Personally I think we needsome kindof Forest Police. Public land is for everybody to use, but not to destroy.

The more I ride, the more junk I see left in the bush and themore Yahoo's I see riding, camping and shooting. Not to mention that some of them are drinking and smoking-up during theseactivities. It does not matter what the person is driving. We are all lumped together.

I really dont think that our comments about the quads had so much to do with the type of riders that use them, more so the damage they do. Its all about a small 4 wheel drive vehicle using single track trails that were cut by and maintained by two wheel riders. In most cases I have seen behind my house, the environmental damage is doubled sheerly by the width of the quads and the fact that they drive all four wheels which are much wider in profile. It really is a physics reality rather than a personality profile.

That being said, none of us are painting all quad riders with the same brush. I will say this though, that personally I view quad riding as a sport, the same way as darts and curling. If you can smoke, and or drink beer while doing it, its not really a sport.:pSeriously though, how many motorcycle riders do you see in the woods that carry firearms and coolers full of beer on their machines!

I would suggest that everyone look into the BCORMA. They seem to have some momentum and are helping in the plight of uniting all motorcycle disciplines with the province and presenting them as a organized and united group to the government who are recognizing them and already granting major funding!

Presently DSBC has 2,900 members and the population of BC is 3,900,000. Do the math...we don't factor into any decisions.

If you'd like to be a factor, make friends with the equestrians, the atvers and the 4x4ers. Just keep in mind that nobody wants to make friends with anyone who looks down on they and their sport.

I'm not afraid to say that my sh** stinks, how's yours?

Do you really think outsiders are looking at trials bikes and/or bikes with trials tires and thinking how much better they are for the environment?

Sorry but I'd rather do something that keeps some land for my kids to enjoy. If it means banding together with others trying to enjoy the outdoors, so be it. Besides, some of the aftermath from the other groups makes for some quite technicalriding.

So.....it's all good.

mine reaks..
but I've seen some areas get wheeled in that made me kinda feel crappy about said area being damaged, that said two months later it was clear cut and burned like a war zone. The land owners care less about the land then we do.. I sometimes think a lot of the gates we come across are to keep joe public from seeing just how bad it can be out there.

I agree with Floored. The sqeaky wheel gets greased when it comes to governments. I work for a local government and witness small special interest groups get their way all the time. Iwas a BCCOM member for a few years and I think I'll renew it as I believe it lobbies on behalf of all motorcyclists and the larger the membership base the larger the stick......or thorn in their a**. We need to get the message to the decisions makers just how restrictive BC is compare to other provinces and states, and also counter the argument that we are destroying the land. The total of all off-road track in relation to the size of our province is unimaginably small, and it would only take a few years of non-use for them to become overgrown. In the same way if Stanley Park were completely shutdown to even walkers, then even those trails would growback to a more natural state.

I just remembered thatI was a beginner at one point, and even now although I try to ride within my ability Istill sometimes find myself on a trail leading me astray, and I do apologizeforany collateral damage caused by survival manouvers.

I saw another threadabout the VMC and I think that's anothergood club worthjoining. Looks like I have cheques tomail and forms to complete tomorrow.

28 more sleeps til the ORCA Run...

Banding together with all other users of off-road areas is a great idea. I think you are missing one point though. My self, I never want to be lumped in with anyone or any group who acts irresponsibly in the woods, or dis-respectfull. Lets face it. There are bad eggs out there in every walk of life. If you meet someone in the woods who is being irresponsible, and you can calmly explain to them how they are messing things up for others, some just dont care, never will.

Just heard a report on the Chilliwack radio this morning that approximately 6km of the Trans Canada trail was torn up in the Chilliwack river area. That area was restricted, only hiking, mountain bikes, and horses allowed. They say it looked like quads had turned it into one long mud-run. "THEY" want to get in contact with Barry Penner to see what can be done to "protect" the trails!! UH-OH......there's the shit...and there is the fan!!!!

OH Boy Two post to reply to at once:clap:

Pic a group you want to belong too.

DSBC is a bunch of old codgers, they dont race, they dont play in the gravel pit, they dont tear up the trail.

Probably because most of us have, "been there and done that," but many here are just learning the secret "code of the dirt biker" (I will get into that in another post)

Anyhow dont worry about being lumped into a group of dirt bikers your dont have thing you have any thing in common with. Once you get involved in a Club you will find many riders are concerned with the trail issues, Including the TBC shit.

If I am correct on the trail that TBC is talkiing about, that route was built many years ago by the GVMC (Grater Vancouver Motocycle Club) and was taken over by TBC for the TCT (Trans Canada Trail).

TBC comes on in and takes over a trail that has alway's been amotorised trail. Because we are not with the program, we dont know why the signs show up denying us access. Then we all cry:( thatthey are closing areas

Yes there are some bad eggs out there, but worring about being lumped into agroupthat you think are bad eggs is a prettylame excuse for not letting our areas getshut down'

Nowthe shamless plug

DSBC will takeyour money to help preserve and build riding areas, only 40 bucks and you can belong to a bunch of old codgers

[line]

Now the trail

Its time we sit down and talk with the TCB about this trail. If they want this trail to be a walkie trail only, I think with a little cash we can build a trail on the other side of the road and work with TBC to mak sure that Motorised traffic stays off the TCT

Its give andtake.

This is not thetrail we are going to takeour stand on.Lets save that for something big

Some good points on this issue. We need to all stop talk to those idiots that think they can ruin our areas for riding tell them this is our future they feel so incline to chew up the trails litter and destroy.I own a trials bike a enduro and a quad and i try to respect all areas i am riding .You will get farther by less air in the tire and the proper tires.I see where j-rock is coming from on my last drive up to lk cowichan the trails that once were are complete clear cuts with no trespassing signs posted every where. Its a good question what is the right answer ?.

The unused logging roads around here, Robotham, are fair to poor. They just get worse as time goes by as the elements do their thing. Anything at all steep will go back to being a creek. You are not going to hurt them. They will never "come back".

Robotham has snow at 500 to 550 meters still, two days ago. A couple more weeks and we'll be on top. ;). I'll post when I make it up.
