Thanks. Called RS they claim to have the pickup coil, ordered it. We will see...:talk:

:ted: PS. According to RS it not so uncommon to replace the pickup coil on the current series DR650...

Well the pick up coil came from RS Stator today. Test good on the multimeter. Cost $60 landed.
New spark plugs, new battery, and new gas. Put it all together tomorrow and see what happens.

Started out good. Got the stator/pickup coil wired up real nice, installed with no issues or oil leeks. Good spark but... no life. Just REALLY BIG BANGS, back fires.
Pulled the CDI box and it didn't pass the multimeter test section of the service manual.

Anyone got a spare CDI box?

i packed everything up and went inside for a nap...:shoot:

On a good note, I put the Techno back together, works great! Thanks to Kenco for a nice job repairing the front wheel and forks.:bliss:

So the end of the story...
In all I spent 2 months and well over $1000 to get my bike running. It works just fine now. The fix is the first thing I sorted out, the pick up coil. I had installed the new pick up coil as described by the manufacture, their unit gave me spark and nothing else. It turns out the pick up coil is wired backwards from the manufacture. Double dam crap!!! The project should have been done for the $40 I spent on the coil. Live and learn...
The bike is sold now, I'm on to a new adventure with a 2009 XR650L...YippieKiYa !! :dr:

"A pickup coil from a Suzuki LTZ 400 will work just fine... mine came from Ricky Stator and cost $39.00 (US)... if you get one just watch when you wire it in. The wires are the same color between the DR650 and the LTZ 400, but they are backwards. The green wire from the LTZ coil goes to the blue wire on the DR's harness and the blue wire from the coil goes to the green wire in the harness. Hook them in wrong and you will get spark, but it will be out of time.
