DRZ 400 S Rad Guards

I put off getting rad guards too long. Fortunatly I only have a minor tweak to remind me to get guards. What brand are the strongest? Devol, Flatland Racing,Scorpion?

I know that Scorpion is basicly a local manufacturer but they don't make a guard specifically for the S model. I would prefer a frame mount guard with a frame brace. Does souch a part exist, or are all the guards out there designed for the E model?

Some of the guards that I have seen mount to the rad so any impact just transfers directly to the rad.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well none of the three actually:D. The best rad guards on the market are the Unabiker rad guards...by far. Easy install if you have hand tool skills etc....

Thanks guys for the input. Unabikers will be ordered tonite.

c337b, I added the case savers right away. The PO had punched a hole in the case with the shifter. I had the case tig welded and epoxied, good as new.

I put on the una-bikers on my "S" model. Took me about an hour. They sure look good in the anodized blue and have also saved my rads a few times. Make sure you ask for shipping via USPS if they can. The fees charged by UPS on top of their shipping rates are absolutely disgusting.

I agree, I want to support MTR and Gnarly Parts when possible. They are good guys who support the club and the cause.

This time I ordered from Thumpertalk as I have a 2000 DRZ and ordered the MCCT as well. The 2000's have the highest rate of failure of the cam chain tensioner, apparently.

Parts are already shipped to Sumas, I clear customs myself, no brokerage is best.

UNABIKER, they look good, butfrom threads on TT have issues.I would sooner support CDN and I pay enough taxes, eco fees etcalready. Scorpionare local BC and have the best spec's, butonly sell thru dealersand I couldn't see guards for the DRZ400s. Has anyone tried the ones from Spruce-Goose store on ebay?
+'s = CDN they look good and seller answers all questions. Thumper talk, come on :p= USA they even complain about the Robertson screw and i didn't find thedualsportBC.com link there:?.

I havn't heard of the "issues". Have you got a link to the thumpertalk discussion? I agree I like to support local buisness but the product has to match in quality.

I bought the Unabiker gaurds. I think that they are the best. Are they a bit of a pain to install, yes they are. Some minor alterations to the fastener design would solve the install problem. Unabikers give great side impact protection in my opinion. The Scopion guards give very little if any side impact protection and cost the same.

BTW, I have ordered parts from Thumpertalk several times and the sevice has been perfect. Now my local dealer is a whole different story. Might not be their fault, maybe Suzuki Canada, but delivery always takes a week or at least a few days longer than what they quote. Order parts on tuesday, told that you will get them on Friday, no luck. If you are lucky yu get them the following Wednesday. Cheeper and faster to order from the US. Unfortunatly I'm not rich enough to support the local guys.

Unabikers are the only guards for the DRZ that actually seem designed to prevent the radiators from crushing, instead of just being a fancy rock shield, which the stock louvers probably do well.

The fit is verytight, but if you read TT threads on all the issues people encontered, you'll be well prepared to deal with them, and make the install much easier than trying to go at it from scratch.

As far as dealers....TT has always been awesome, never any problems. I'm always having lots of"challenges" with local guys, even though I try my darnest to support them, and to support Canadian business.

But this isn't Communism, the ones with the best product/service/value should win your dollar.
