DRZ Electrical trouble

First off my dash computer quit working. The neutral light/high beam indicator/turn signal indicator lights all still work. The odom/speddom screen is blank. Sometimes the screen gets a funny letter or two on it. That happened 3 weeks ago. I came home and parked the bike and haven't touched it since(no time). Today i went to go for a burn.....dead battery. forgot to put the tender on it like i always do but it should still start after 3 weeks. I jumped it with a battery pack and let it run for awhile and then tested the battery. Before starting the reading was under 5 volts. Now after running for 15 minutes and having the battery tender on it it reads 11.85 volts. The problem is it dips below 8 volts when you rev it up. someone has suggested it may have a faulty regulator/rectifier. The headlight also dims when revving. Any ideas?

no comment on the original (still there?) issue but, X 2, on the dead battery, any 12v battery that reads below the nominal 12v is a dead one.

thanks. I will purchase a new battery then after i take it to work and recharge it and run a load test on it. Next question. Has anyone had any experience with Shorai Lithium Ion Batteries. They claim to have double the CCA at 220. One fifth the weight, holds the charge for a year without maintenance, and 2 year warranty. almost twice the price.

I bought a Shorai battery from BRP, about $100 plus $5 to have it sent to Ship Happens in Sumas.
Probably the same wieght savings as an after market pipe. The stock battery is a brick in comparison. This battery wieghs less than the battery box on your bike.

Spins the starter pretty good as well. Durability wise, I can't complain about the stocker , it lasted 6 years.

One thing though, the manufacturer says NOT to use a smartcharger, just a regular trickle charger.
