Dunlop 908 RR

I just installed my new Rally Raid on the front wheel. It was a bit of an effort but I wanted to be sure I could do it with my trail tools. I am missing a few knuckles:(and it took a little longer than usual but it's on.

This tire has some seriously stiff sidewalls! Once mounted, and before inflating the tube, I sat on the the top of the tire. I don't think the sidewalls deflected one bit - and I pack a fair bit of weight. I don't know that I'll notice if it does go flat on the trail.

I think this is going to be a great tire. I'll let you know. (And I will be runningit near full pressure).

I've been using those for awhile now Dorky - tough to mount, but kickass! You'll find them a lot easier in the summer if you leave your bike parked in the hot sun.

Paul what kind of mileage are you getting out of a rear tire?

Hi Pacchman;

Mounted one of these on Rear of 530EXC, It's done at 2,000K, ( lots of throttle application and wheelspin involved here!) ;)no torn off knobs, but it doesn't hook up at all in any kind of wet/mud/grass, downright scary, but very good on dry and hardpack gravel, still I won't put another one on, I am going to try a Pirelli next.

Cheers, Wopper

i have a pirelli mt21 on my husky. i was not impressed by the wear of this tire at all. under power, or sliding in a corner the tire doesn't break away predictably and the front keeps slipping out on me.

i think i will try the dunlops next season as the okanagan doesn't get too wet and muddy. i read the reviews on rockymountainatv.com and i think they are the tires for me.

how are they holding up at the end of the season for you guys?

would you reccomend them for a lighter bike like the te610?

I ran the 908RR on the front all this season on my 640. My final review is that this is a very tough tire which is great against flats. However, I wasn't overly impressed with the handling.

  • I didn't like it much at speed on pavement.
  • It required a long, long break-in period before I was happy with in in the dirt - like 30% wear!!
  • Not great in mud.
  • Good on gravel and rock.
  • No cuts, no missing knobs.
On the front I will go back to MT21 or Scorpion Pro .

On the back it is D606 or Scorpion Pro for me.

You had one on the rear too didn't you? As I recall you didn't think too much of it.

How many rears have you had this year?

Hey Joker,

How did the rear D908RR behave on the 950???

I'm not sure between the michelin desert (I had 3 so far on my 950 adv) or the dunlop 908?

Can't wait to see the PIRELLI SCORPION RALLY they were using in the Dakar 2009...

If it gets out to the market???:wi:

Thanks

Pat

I didn't like that RR on the back.

It made the bike go into a wobble at about 130k :hr:

U had to just "Give'r" right through 130 then it would go away.

The other thing it did was give a good woble every time u rode across one of those crack in the pavement.

I think the tire sucked....for the handling and price.

But others really like it.

I like the tire.....BUT I do get that nasty wobble at 130km/hr. If you know what it is and are expecting it, you can live with it. I like it in the dirt.
I think because of the wider rim on the adventure it gives a wider footprint and I get better life (5000 kms)

so whats the final take on the 908. I've got one in my garage to try later this spring. Ive run mt21s on my 650r and now 690E. they haved served well as everything has a compromise. I curently have a terraflex on the back which is good off road as long as your not on slippery roots or rocks, way to hard of compound and I'll proply only get 2500km out of it. please tell me about the michelin desert? i know th dunlop606 is a great tire,i'll probly try those one day too.

Done with the Dunlop Rally Raid, Donewith the Pirelli, now on to the Metzeler Extreme......more later on this.....

The one Im Liking right now:clap:is the Michelin AC 10 tires, super agressive, good for 650 and under, great mileage ~ 2500-3500 depending on throttle application....:D

I got a Dunlop 908 RR for the front of my Husky. Now after reading all this, I am wondering if I should put it on.:hr:

For the back I got a Michelin AC 10.

+1 for the AC10 front. I use it on both the KLR and the 525 and I love it. I didn't like the AC10 on the back for the 525, it didn't seem to hook up too well, and never tried it on the KLR.

I ran AC10s on the front of the Berg before I went to Scorpion Pros.I thought they had really good handling in most offroad conditions. I think they were close to the Scorpions but they had way better wear characteristics.

To get a bit more wear I guess you give up some handling.

Another great tire for consideration on the front is the Michelin S12. I think these are pretty much the same as the Scorpion Pro but again, better wear. I don't remember if they were DOT but I thought they were a great tire for the dirt on my Berg. I did rip a few knobs off of them though so I think they are for softer environments.

I just dug up an old S12 in the garage -notDOT :(
