I think BMW is going to kick some serious butt with this bike. Good on them for coming up with something Japan never seems to want to get into. When will they come to Canada?

I agree.

The back wheel looks kinda small though:?

I think this bike would be great on some of the 2-track arround here with a gearing change.

It will be interesting how this bike holds up after a year or so. If BMW is serious and the bike does not have a bunch of problems, then KTM could be in real trouble.

Below is off BMW New Zealand website. Looks like BMW developed the motor and rotax will build it. If this is true, then the enging should be as bullet proof as many have specualted.

DIE WELT: when will the new BMW middle class bikes be ready?
Herbert Diess: we will begin next year with the first model. It will be a parallel twin with 800 cc, which we will build in two output versions - one with approximately 60 bhp and one with 80 bhp. Both are designed with powerful torque in mind. We will begin with the more powerful engine in a semi-clad sports bike to be followed by a tourer and later also by a naked model. The weight to the sports machines corresponds to that of the best competitors. All this will include an excellent suspension, belt drive and - what is more - the twin engine has something to offer with regard to engine construction which you won't find in the competitive environment. The bike will be priced below €10,000. BMW has developed the engine and it will be built by Rotax who then deliver it to Berlin. The new BMW middle class model range will be built entirely in the Berlin plant.

I dunno, the KTMRallye bikes have routed their pipes in the same position, keeps them away from your legs.

I know this is actually the KTM Baja 1000 entry from a couple years back, but it shows the Rallye header routing.

Just put a nice CF skidplate on that F800GS and you're all set!

Great looking bike, thanks for all the dealer inside stuff BMWnut.:tup:Got any F800ST left over or used?

Thanks 640!

No used 800s and the last time I checked the warehouse there were no 800s. I'll check again on Tuesday and PM you.

Interestingly enough with this bike being so good (light, strong and high-tech) not to mention the horsepower; will they be stepping on the heels of the sales of the GS1200's?

why would you pay for the extra cost and extra insurance for a few more ponies and worse gas mileage?

I heard from someone that follows much of what BMW does, that BMW eventually wants to ax the 1200 in favour of the 800. He said that it is in their long term plans after they refine the GS a little more for a few years. Could be all nonsense talk though but who knows. BMWnut would probably know much more about this if it is true or not.

You get Tele-lever front suspension, and para-lever shaft drive rear suspension on the 1200. The boxer also has knock detectors so it can handle a wide range of fuels without problem.

I think there will be a few less 1200GS sales in favour of the new 800GS, but the big seller in the 1200GS line is the Adventure. Which with its 750KM range will out last pretty well anything.

The 1200 next year gets 105 HP and a 8,000 redline, up from 7500. They have shuffled all the tranny ratios to work with the retuned motor better, and the Adventure once again has an optional low ratio gear box. Yeah no more clutching at walking speed!

Cool looking BMW. Any of you BMW riders have any feedback on their frame design? Can side drops toast the exposed engineered frame style? The bmw's do tend to leave their engine too exposed. That engine guard in the one photo looks very weak. The exhaust will get smacked but I would rather that go than an engine case.

Even though you can argue that this is not the xchallenge, any DS bike has to be able to withstand drops and bottoming out in the cross stitches, and hitting rocks. I'm sure people will come up with something to shield it. The center stand looks a bit dangerous with the assist sticking out ready to gash your calf. But don't need that on there anyway.

BMW really likes those frames though and I wonder. They look pretty thick in diameter so it may be ok. Any BMW people with comments on the frame? I'm curious. Maybe it's only an 1150issue. The xchallenge has a very exposed triangular frame style too.

The yellow looks sexy, the grey looks cold but nice. I wonder what it would look like if it was colored like a high tech military bike. I think that would look pretty nice. Desert sand or military green. They should have had one of these in the transformer movie. Transforming DS bike.
